I dont know where to start with this.  I was using Windows 8.1 with no problems for last couple of years after updating Windows 8 with the help of Microsoft a while back.  I have Windows 8 that came with a key from my original purchase and the Windows key.

I am not sure why it could be down to a virus or not...that I was suddenly unable to download Windows updates successfully.  (Could it be a virus??) I did seek help but eventually restored my computer back to its original state Windows 8 hoping that would solve the problem, it didn't and I still now have 144 updates that i cannot download not matter what i do...please see attached photos.

I am not sure what i can do? or what the problem is at one point my computer said that i had not entered my Windows Product number (25 digits) that may have been wiped out by this issue...because it was never an issue before and is bonafide copy bought from Windows brand new in a reputable store!! along with the computer...

Can anyone help?  At some level i wonder whether dare i say it this is some sort of issue created by Windows to get you to buy a new product....I did talk to them at length but they actually made the issue worse...believe it or not.

Any advice gratefully received i think i would rather stick to windows 81 as i hear Windows 10 is not great but open to any solution...please see attached stills from desk top.

Many thanks in advance, I am not a tech expert.....but may end up being a slight one ...so would need clear instructions to work with someone on this issue!

Hi,

Microsoft no longer releases new updates to Windows 8 the base is now Windows 8.1 with the so called Update 3.

My suggestion is to download Windows 8.1 directly from Microsoft https://www.microsof...wnload/windows8 and create a install DVD or flash drive. If you run the Windows setup it will update your current installation preserving settings and installed programs.

After the upgrade the number of needed updates should be lower and this will make Windows Update work better.

Thank You for the feedback.

Just for the record you can upgrade directly from Windows 8 to Windows 10 without the need of going to Windows 8.1 first.

Windows 10 can be downloaded from Microsoft here https://www.microsof...load/windows10/
