vista documents transferred to window 10

I have a dvd-r disc with documents from my vista computer which I downloaded to my window 10 computer. These documents cannot be opened. I get a message that they are pdf files and adobe reader cannot open them because the are either corrupt or not in the proper format. Any suggestions that will allow me to open these documents. Cannot transfer from computer to computer because unfortunately the Vista computer is dead.
