So I currently have a P5N32-E SLI motherboard which broke last night. After taking it into the store I was told that I could either buy a similar/same motherboard and keep everything on my computer or get a new one and wipe it all.
I opted to keep my files etc.
Since my current/ex motherboard is very old and hard to purchase, any help on which similar models which would withstand modern gpus/processors would be appreciated.

I hope that things were explained to you better than that, if not then the service that you received is somewhat lacking.

 

To be able to keep your data on the HDD without doing anything else you would need an identical MB to the one that has failed, the reason for this is because Windows will not boot with any other MB due to the fact that the MBs drivers will not be the same for both boards and Windows will try boot using the ASUS P5N32-E SLI drivers which obviously will not work.

 

Your options depend on what you want to replace, before I go into too much detail let us know this, for now I will mention that you could purchase a new HDD with any other new hardware, do a clean install of Windows, fit the present HDD and use it as a second storage device and therefore retain your data.

There are no MBs similar to the P5N32-E SLI that are compatible with either your DDR2 RAM or socket 775 CPU and a PCI-E 3.0 add on video card may also not work dependant on what version the PCI-E slot is on any earlier MB.
