A few years ago I got a set of Sennheiser RS 120 headphones for my birthday. Recently they started acting strangely. The sound quality will drop and sometimes cut out completely. It seems to work better again after I let them sit in the charger for a little while buts almost always just a temporary fix. The contacts for the charger and headphones also seem to be somewhat worn out. Should I get a new set or try a new rechargeable battery?

batteries do degrade over time and don't hold a charge so that's the first thing i'd change to see if it fixes your problem. if the contacts were the problem then i doubt it would put any charge into the battery at all so it would just be dead and you'd hear nothing at all out of them.

the improvement for a short time after being on charge definitely points to a battery problem to me.
