I have windows vista installed on a gateway. I had some memory installed on the gateway, but the operating system is as I bought it with Vista installed. I have a boot disk that I purchased from Amazon that worked perfectly on a different computer, it is supposed to be for all windows 7 systems.
After dealing with the issue using the tools that I have, and my limited knowledge, I think that the problem is that I have deleted an apple program that had icudt49.dll, and my attempts to get it back have all failed, and probably made things worse. The only recovery disc I have is the one that I purchased, which isn't working. It works to the point that it took me to startup repair with the message:
Root cause found:
Boot configuration is corrupt.
Which means that the startup disk can't get by the missing .dll???
I sent the error to Microsoft, but will they advise me? I can't boot the program normally anymore, I just get the error-fix menus now.
I am willing to wipe the hard-drive, I want to use this computer for one function only, and I have saved those files, and can download the programs to run the files.
Any thoughts?
I found a place to download a repair disc that might help, but I am downloading through a 64 bit system, and it is for a 32 bit Gateway. It seems to say that this is possible, but it won't let me download the 32 bit onto a disc.
