Laptop screen

Ok people I need a reply quick because I have about maybe a month max to get this sorted! ok my brother has my dads laptop at uni some clumsy fool managed to stand on it and crack the screen, I know what type of laptop it is (Dell SmartPc 250N) and I know what kind of screen I'm looking for (15" SXGA+) but my questions are:
1. Does the screen have to be specifically designed for the laptop or can I buy a screen that has the same specifications and use that?
2. Do any of you know how to replace the screens? If you do please describe in detail what to do!

I've only ever used pcs so I know pc hardware but not laptops.

Like I said people this is an emergency!!
