I'm having a strange situation on a W7 Pro  SP1 PC. I could not check for updates, error C0000022 when i try to do so.

I have ran:

1/  chkdsk /F

2/ sfc /scannow

3/ returned to last good configuration

4/deactivated Norton for a 15min.

but none of the above worked.

In searching further, i found out that for some unclear reason, my windows license key is not visible anymore in the control panel\system window....

I tried activating it, but then found out that the "Software protection service" is not running, when i try to start it manually, i get a message that it cannot start as a file

is missing, but no info what file ?

In looking into the event viewer, i saw that the spldr driver was not started (message right after the reboot).

I believe all is related to each other, the update cannot work because there is no license key, the software protection service is not running so update probably needs it, etc...

It's not clear to me how to get out of this, but it looks to me that this spldr could be the cause of all as it is the first error message i see.

Any thoughts ?

thanks.

Hello Paul432220,

Nothing wrong with the suggestion made by FreeBooter, the AIO tool is able to fix multiple issues when only being run only the once, this removes the need for step by step instructions in a members topic and more often than not it gets things back to normal for the end user far quicker, please see my canned info below;

Download then run the Windows All in One Repair (free)  from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

In addition to the above, do you have the product key for your Windows 7 Pro, just in case it needs to be reactivated, if needs be run Magical Jelly Bean keyfinder (free) write down your product key details, store them somewhere safe and share them with no one else.

Sorry for the delay, i was out on a trip...

I ran the FreeBooter, the AIO tool  but that has not changed my issue of the SPLDR not being started.

I also still have an issue with the Windows key, as Win 7 seems to have lost it...

Any suggestions as to what should be the next step ?

thanks, Paul.

Hi,

maybe somewhat basic as a question, but i don't see a ACPI section in the BIOS (maybe it is hidden...), the PC is an Acer Veriton M490G.

On the link https://forums.mydig...mp-Cert-Backup), i can't see a tool to read the BIOS content... seems i need to register first, but what should i be looking for once registered ?

thanks.

Paul.

Hi,

In the BIOS, i only see one reference to ACPI, it carries a value "OS ready", so i assume this is OK.

I ran the MGADIAG exe, i attach a screenshot below with the output...at first sight to me this looks OK.

I went over the  "Windows Could Not Start The Software Protection Service On Local Computer"  item, sppsvc did not have the "full" rights, so i adapted this in the registry, but i still have the SPLDR message after rebooting the PC....

Finally, i could not find a certificate on the site you indicated for my Acer PC, i did found one on my hard drive in the \windows\system32\OEM directory with the name

Acer0A21.xrm-ms....maybe this is the certificate file i need...?

thanks, Paul.

Hi,

Before i go this route, i do not have an ISO DVD with W7 on it since it came with the PC when i bought it.

I did read i can download it from MS and it looks i have to supply the COA to get it.

Anything else i need to worry about ? Does all data on the HDD remains as is ?

thanks, Paul.

Hi FreeBooter,

I have been travelling this week and did not have much time to try this out.

I'll give it a try over the weekend and will let you know,

thanks, Paul.

Hi,

I can inform you my PC is running fine again !

I had some trouble finding a Win 7 SP1 32 bit Pro Dutch version. When i followed the links you provided me,  i had to key in my WIN 7 key but got the message from MS that this was an OEM key and that i had to contact the manufacturer. Acer did however not provide any way of downloading this. This made me aware that next time, i'll buy a PC, i'll make sure to have Win images of it as without it i would have been stuck.

During the weekend, i was able to find one...thank god !

I went over the repair route, had to call MS for getting a code as my COA (the one on the sticker of the PC) was rejected by MS while activating (it was considered not valid), but that process went fine, i was able to finish the repair and activate Win 7 afterwards without any issues.

Thanks a lot for your assistance in getting me over this issue !

Happy holidays and enjoy Thanksgiving (if you happen to celebrate it), As you know we in Europe don't do this.

Cheers

Paul.
