I have a MacBook Pro that started freezing up a few months back and giving me a warning saying the storage disk was full. I have since backed up and deleted most of the files on my computer leaving me with over half my storage available. Now I am getting a warning saying 'your system has run out of application memory' and forces me to close programs. At the time I only have Finder and Firefox open with 2-3 tabs in Firefox. I've done some googling and searching and I think my problem is a leak. When I look at my Activity Monitor the largest three memory users are installer, installer, and kernal_task. The installers are 30+GB! So is my problem really that I need more RAM or that I have a leak? And what do I do?

(I realize that my previous problem was hard drive space and my current problem is RAM--not sure though if the first impacted the second, that is why I provided that)

Here are my computer specs:

macOS Sierra version 10.12.1

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)

Processor 2.3GHz Intel Core i7

Memory 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Startup Disk Macintosh HD

Graphis Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

I'm not super computer savvy and my husband is a pc, so if you need more information please tell me where to find it and I will provide it.

THANK YOU!!!

Hello spencergirl,

This site mainly deals with Windows issues. While we do have forums for other OS's they rely on people with knowledge of those systems dropping in to help. It's been a while now and it doesn't look like anyone here is able to assist you with your issue.

I can't help you with this either but see the link below for Apple support for macbook. That might be a place to find a solution. :)
