One day it worked and the next it didn't.  I checked the RPC and it's running automatic and the next one is manual.

I'm using Windows picture viewer.  The black screen comes up and an error message says, "the remote procedure call failed".  The scan "did not find any integrity violations"

I can see the pictures if I open them with Photo Viewer.  If I click on the thumbnail in my pictures folder it still says 

"the remote procedure call failed".  I would like them to open with "photos" like they always did.  Thank you for your help.

I deleted the thumbnails and still got the same error message.  I don't know what a codec is or how to uninstall one.

Thank you FREEBOOTER.  I copied the commands and pasted in the command prompt, rebooted and it now works.  If you'd be so kind as explain what I did I'd appreciate it.
