Ping and download speed are two totally different things.

The ping is just an indicator that you have a fast connection to a server. It is just a time measurement that tells you how fast you can communicate with a server. This might be because the server is close to your location or your net infrastructure is well done. You say a metaphorical "hi server" to the server and it answers back with a "Hi User". The time that passes until the communication (connection) is established is called "ping" . If you are in America and the server is located in Germany you will have a larger ping than to a server that is standing in your neighbours house. This is imporatant for game matchmaking or chosing an approriate download server for your region .There is no download speed or bandwidth involved yet.

The bandwidth or, as you called it, the download speed , is something entirely different. It is the speed you get while down or uploading files, the bandwidth. It is dependent from alot of factors :

  • your provider
  • the internet plan you chose
  • the general quality of the internet infrastructure of your city/area
  • router used
  • distance to this router
  • device you download with
  • website / client you download from
  • browser you use
  • etc etc etc

That means you can have the best internet in the world, if the server you want to download a file from only allows for a 100-200kb/s download you cant change that fact.
