probably either 2500k or 3570k.
2500k is 2nd generation i5 :- http://ark.intel.com...-up-to-3_70-GHz
3570k is 3rd generation i5 :- http://ark.intel.com...-up-to-3_80-GHz
after 3rd gen i believe they changed the socket to 1150.
passmark benchmark scores for 6600k, 3570k, 2500k to give you an idea on how each cpu's performance compares.
http://www.cpubenchm...3.50GHz&id=2570
http://www.cpubenchm... 3.40GHz&id=828
http://www.cpubenchm... 3.30GHz&id=804
first number is the generation of the cpu's and the k means they are all unlocked and can be easily overclocked.
should of added the i7's too seeing how your comparing a newer socket cpu to an older socket cpu.
i7 2600k :- http://ark.intel.com...-up-to-3_80-GHz
i7 3770k :- http://ark.intel.com...-up-to-3_90-GHz
passmark scores.
http://www.cpubenchm... 3.40GHz&id=868
http://www.cpubenchm... @ 3.50GHz&id=2
comparison of 3770k vs 6600k :- http://cpu.userbench...600K/1317vs3503
in general the rule is newer is always faster than older generations core for core.
