The temperature is still steady: around 40C if idle and between 50 and 60C if running applications. 

 

I ran the two tests and neither of them reported any problems. There were no bad sectors or other errors on the hard disk and the memory test said that the test passed. 

 

I did have a new kind of blue screen crash during the first memory test when the computer rebooted to start the test. 

 

I am wondering what the possible problem(s) and how I should act further. These might be the conclusions based on your posts:

- The temperature of the CPU might be a bit high, but it is not as high that the heat could explain BSOD's.

- There is no sign of serious malware or virus infections that could have affected the pc.

- There is no sign of serious corruption of the (Windows) system files.

- There is no sign of other hardware problems. 

 

What should I do? Is there a chance that a clean WIndows install would help? Or should I test the hardware further so that I can find a potential hardware problem? 

 

I really appreciate your help and the advice that you have given and I do not want to keep you busy endlessly.

It may still be getting hot.  Failing after running a memory test sort of points at heat as the CPU has to work really hard during the test.    If cleaning the heatsink isn't enough then it's possible that the thermal paste is getting old or the fan isn't pushing enough air.

 

Replacing the thermal paste isn't difficult.  Arctic Silver 5 is my favorite and you can get a kit  with cleaners for about 10 Euro.  Here I would get it from Amazon

There are instructions on the Arctic Silver website that show you how to clean it and how much to use for each CPU.

I don't see a reinstall fixing the problem.  Usually DISM & SFC would complain if Windows was at fault.  It's possible that the heat has damaged something so that a normal heat rise makes something act up when it normally wouldn't.  Perhaps adding a case fan to keep the temp down might help.  Sometimes just running without the case cover will help or letting a small external fan blow on the vents.

There is Amazon in Germany and they deliver to the Netherlands as well. I'll try replacing the thermal paste.

Hi, I have bought the thermal paste, I have received it and I have applied it to the CPU/heatsink. The last step was yesterday. The CPU temperatures are significantly lower. However, the blue screens did not stop. I had two new ones. This is the BlueScreenView log:

Both BSODs point to memory so I would try the memtest86

This one claims to work on Win10 style UEFI boot.  Turns out the memtest86+ doesn't yet have an UEFI boot option.
