I just got a brand new HP computer the other day and I want my computer to be protected when I go online.  What is a good anti-malware, anti-virus program/s I can install on my machine that will protect me while I'm online? If I can get it free that would be great, but I don't mind spending a few dollars on a good program/s.​

What OS are you using, are you aware that Windows 8/8.1 and 10 have an updated version of Windows Defender that offers the same real time protection as Microsoft Security Essentials, you do not need third party AV protection and by not installing any you are reducing the possibility of potential conflicts and freeing up resources on your computer, information courtesy of admin here

 

Compliment this with MBAM free (or Pro for a fee) and SUPERAntiSpyware and you are good to go.

Hello a few things I have used so I know they work well are as below.

 

Avast is a good free antivirus.

MVP hosts file is great as an added layer this will block a number of know bad things as well as adverts.

Malwarebytes antimalware This if the full version not free but very good will block bad Ip's in real time as well as malware and has a very good detection rate with malware dare I say it's the best out there so worth the price.

(Edit It can now replace your anti virus version 3.0)

For the browser I'd use chrome

and Avira browser safety as an addon for your browser it will help highlight and block dangerous sites.
