I wonder if a key could be stuck on your keyboard?

Download the 30 day free trial here:

http://www.passmark....cts/keytest.htm

See if it sees any keys are acting up.

Then check your mouse.

http://unixpapa.com/js/testmouse.html

When I left click I get:

mousedown   which=1 button=0 buttons=1
mouseup     which=1 button=0 buttons=0
click       which=1 button=0 buttons=0

Right click says:

mousedown   which=3 button=2 buttons=2
mouseup     which=3 button=2 buttons=0
contextmenu which=3 button=2 buttons=0

If you get something different let me know.

No new errors of consequence.

Did you ever get a speccy log?  I'm wondering if the hard drive is at fault for the boot problem.

Run Speccy.  When it finishes (the little icon in the bottom left will stop moving),
File, Save as Text File,  (to your desktop) note the name it gives. OK.  Open the file in notepad and delete the line that gives the serial number of your Operating System.
(It will be near the top about 10 lines down.) Save the file.  Attach the file to your next post.  (More Reply Options, Choose File, Open, Attach This File)

Speccy says: Hard drive looks good.  Temps are nice and low.

Are you still unable to highlight?  Is this just in your browser or also in notepad?

It's not quite that simple.

You eventually wind up on

http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

Then you choose the way you want to start it.  You can have it boot from a CD or a USB.  So you choose one of the options under:

MemTest86 V7.2 Free Edition (also includes V4 for old machines)

Windows Downloads:

Image for creating bootable CD (ISO format)
Image for creating bootable USB Drive

If you choose the cd option, you download it and then right click and Extract All.  That will give you the .iso file and a readme.
I like to use freeisoburner since it doesn't need a lot of configuration.

You can get it from:

Download it Run it and then click on Open and point it at the iso file you ust extracted.

Then hit Burn.  You will need a blank CD

Once you burn the CD you then reboot and boot off the CD.  (You may have to change the boot order in the BIOS so it looks at your CD/DVD first before the hard drive.)

The test will boot and it should be self explanatory then.  Normally it goes through a series of test patterns.  The idea is to let it go through the complete series at least 6 times.  It will tell you if it finds a problem.

If you would rather use a USB then the only difference is you need rugus instead of freeisoburner.

Rufus is at:
