My steam game, "Path of Exile," is for some reason, force closing when I..

 

Things I've done that force closes my game so far

-ctrl alt del to open task manager (if I use the cmd to open the task manager, it's fine)

-Open the "core temp" program from the start menu

-Downloaded Mozilla Firefox from chrome while the game was still running

 

Things I've noticed with just using ctrl alt del to open task manager

-Force closes in borderless windowed and windowed mode.

-When running in fullscreen, the game turns into windowed mode and stops responding eventually logging me out to the login screen. (Does not force close entirely)

 

When running another game on steam, "Rocket League," I'm able to run it in borderless and open the task manager and core temp program just fine.

 

A few days ago I installed a brand new ssd and hdd.

-Path of Exile installed on my ssd

-Rocket League is installed on the hdd.

-Core Temp is installed on hdd

-Steam is installed onto my hdd

SSD = Local Disk (C:) > SteamLibrary>steamapps>common>Path of Exile

HDD = WD Blue 1TB (E:)>Program Files>Steam>steamapps>common>rocketleague

 

I haven't found anything online that relates to this sort of problem and I think it has something to do with installations on the separate drives or maybe a quick-key binding but that doesn't explain the game force closing while opening Core Temp.

 

Anyways, that's my story. Appreciate any input.

Update what? steam, drivers, poe, or windows?

After some troubleshooting with a friend, we've come to the conclusion it might be a DirectX 9 problem.

 

While running Path of Exile in "DirectX 11 Beta" mode, I was able to successfully use ctrl alt del to open the task manager and also open Core Temp without the game force closing.

Found out something else now while using DirectX 9.

If i open Core Temps as Administrator, Path of Exile force quits but, if I open it normally, it does not force close.
