Hi,

I have an HP 17-e153sa laptop running Windows 10.

Recently a few of the keys stopped working and so I purchased a replacement keyboard. I replaced it quite easily, switched the laptop on and typed in my password with no problem. When it gets into Windows however, the keyboard stops working and just beeps with every keypress.

I have put the original keyboard back in and the same thing happens - nothing types, just beeps.

I have also plugged in a USB keyboard and the same thing - only beeps.

I have tried updating the keyboard driver but it just tells me the correct one is installed.

Does anyone have any ideas why the keyboard works fine at the login screen but fails once Windows loads?

Thank you.

Hello CalicaCJA,

Can you try booting into Safe Mode only (no networking) and let us know if the keyboard works ok.

Hi, thanks for your response.

Sorry for the delay in my reply but I was away for Christmas.

I did try running it in safe mode but the same thing happened. I have now resolved the issue by resetting the laptop back to it's factory settings and then reinstalling Windows 10 - as soon as I did that the keyboard worked perfectly.  I shall put it down to a bizarre Windows 10 update error maybe!

Thanks again
