I have a W10 PC that, apparently, opened a OneDrive account for me and – to my surprise -- I seem to have been inadvertently using it! I'd like to understand what's going on --- hence these questions, some of which will undoubtedly be ill phrased and/or just dumb. I would certainly appreciate someone answering these questions and clarifying OneDrive for me.

  • My problems (and I think they are related to OneDrive) start when I log on to the PC ( a Dell desktop). Right now when I power the PC on I get a screen that shows two options in the lower left corner. One option is labeled with my name, say “Joe Blow”, and the other is labeled “801”. The “801” slot is highlighted and the symbol “801” is shown in the center of the screen. --- As I do not know the password for “801”(never selected one so far as I can recall), I change from “801” to the “Joe Blow” option, at which point “Joe Blow” appears in the center of the screen; and after I insert this password (that I do know), I get a Welcome message and a few seconds later the desktop full of my icons appears--- and I then am fully operational. ---- Where did that label “801” come from? Is the “801” somehow related to Windows 8.1? Is the “801” somehow related to OneDrive?

  • Right now, I see (using Filing Explorer) that documents I create (using Open Office Writer) are being saved in This PC\Documents. But I see that I also have lots of messages (that I composed last year) that are filed under C:\Users\801\OneDrive. So I seem to be using One Drive, correct? Why are some messages stored under OneDrive and others not???

  • I guess for me to use OneDrive account on this PC and on my iPad and smart phone, the first thing is to register for OneDrive and create a OneDrive password. Just how do I do that?

Thanks. ….. batpark
