I have a rather old 500GB WD HDD that I tried connecting today.

All the file names are corrupted:

 

When I connected it Windows claimed some corruption, and choosing repair it quickly claimed it fixed the problem, though nothing seemed to have been done.

 

Any advice?

This was an old backup drive I used.
These are all regular files and folders.
It was actually offline for about 2 years.

It would be wise to check the drive for malware as a precaution, please see the GTG redirection info below;

 

I suspect that you have some malware on your computer causing issues that we are not able to solve through means we can use here in the Tech Forums.
