I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate sp1 on a HP Intel Pentium laptop and can't for the life of me figure out what these extra devices are.

(I know the pic isn't not enough informantion to go on, I just wasn't sure what to show for this type of thing.)

 

 

I think installed them wrong using Intel Driver Update Utility. I think it was installing older versions of drivers over newer ones it just installed, I'm not sure the program isn't very descriptive. I believe they have something to do with graphics and audio but I wouldn't know where to place them even if I did it manually.

Any kind of help would be appreciated and if there's any other sort of infomation you need please feel free to ask.

I expect it needs the intel chipset utility but let's look:

 

Right click on Computer and select Manage and then Device Manager then View, Show Hidden Drivers.  Now look in the right pane for yellow flagged devices.  Right click on one and select properties then click on the Details tab.  Change Property to Hardware IDs.  Click on the top one then right click and copy.  Paste that into a reply.  Repeat for each yellow flagged devices.

 

Also give me the model number of the PC (look on the sticker on the bottom)

I think you need

Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Client Driver which is under Chipset on

but I would start by downloading and installing the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver then the above and if you still have unknowns,

 

Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver

The first 2(Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver and Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Client Driver) went smoothly and removed 3 unknowns(PCI Data Acquisition and Singnal Processing Controller and Unkown device 1 and 2 from my last post) in the Device Manager.

 

 

The last 2(Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver and Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver)  gave me a bit of problems. They both gave me an error after installing the exe saying that the the program might not have installed properly and then gave me an option to reinstall. Doing so didn't seem to do anything and never got those errors argin. I then went to Device Manager and did a hardware scan and let Windows search for my drivers and it managed to fix 1 more issue and that was the PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller Properties.

 

So my last problem is still Unkown device 3 from my last post, I checked to make sure it said the same thing under Hardware Ids and continued to do hardware scans but Windows just doesn't detect this one.

Turns out the unknown device is going to stay unknown in Windows 7.  It's for use by Windows 8 or beter.  If you go into your BIOS setup you should find a Security tab and then you can disablie Intel Platform Trust Technology..

That should make it go away.

After some more messing around. I also noticed my "fn" key functions don't work(The key that lets you do things like changing the brightness or volume, ect. when pressing fn key+ one of the F# keys). So I'm guessing it has something to do with that. I checked around the HP support site for my model and they had a program that added them called HP System Event Utility so I tried that and got another error durring the install only in the comand promt this time saying

 

"ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value"

 

Oh guess I was a few minutes late.

Thanks, that fixed my unkown device problem and thanks again for helping me with the rest of my missing drivers although, I still don't know why my "fn" keyboard functions don't work but I guess I can do without them.

I don't see any software or drivers on the HP website for the function keys.  You might want to make sure they are actually working.

It's possible that the BIOS controls them so you might update your BIOS or check in the BIOS setup to see if they get enabled there.

Thanks, it was in the BIOS setup. I needed to disable to enable the fn keys and I read it wrong this whole time, so everything is in working order now. Thanks again for all your help.
