It will work, actually a much better and faster drive but it's a bit smaller: Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Doesn't appear that your current drive is using all of the space so you can probably shrink the partition down to something that will fit on it.

Right click on Computer and select Manage then under Storage click on Disk Management.  Click on the major partition for your drive and then right click and Shrink Partition.  Shrink it down to about 200 GB and it should then clone without fancy software.  After the clone you can expand it to use all available space.

Looking at the speedfan analysis I think they made a mistake.  No way should that be 100% with that many read and write errors.

I still feel the drive is failing  If you go back to speed fan you will see an Extended Test option.  See if it will run.  Sometimes if it's just a bad sector or two the test will get the drive to replace the sectors.

Where are you located?

OK.  I still think the drive is toast but let's see if we can find anything else wrong.

In the Search box type:  dxdiag

wait for it to find it.  Right click on dxdiag.exe and Run As Admin.
If you have a 64 bit system then click on Run 64 bit DxDiag.
Once it finishes (green line in bottom left goes away)

Save All Information.  Point it at your desktop and it should save it as dxdiag.txt.

Exit

Double click on dxdiag.txt and copy and paste the text into a reply.

Right click on (My) Computer and select Manage (Continue) Then click on the arrow in front of Event Viewer. Next Click on the arrow in front of Windows Logs Right click on System and Clear Log, Clear. Repeat for Application.

Reboot.

Start, All Programs, Accessories then right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.  Then type (with an Enter after each line).
sfc  /scannow

(This will check your critical system files. Does this finish without complaint?  IF it says it couldn't fix everything then:

Copy the next two lines:

findstr  /c:"[SR]"  \windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log  >  \windows\logs\cbs\junk.txt
notepad \windows\logs\cbs\junk.txt

Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator, Continue.  Right click and Paste or Edit then Paste and the copied line should appear.
Hit Enter. Copy and paste the text from notepad or if it is too big, just attach the file.)

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.  (Each time you run VEW it overwrites the log so copy the first one to a Reply or rename it before running it a second time.)

DXDiag doesn't show anything.  Waiting on the VEW logs (and the junk file from sfc if sfc is not happy)

Your Process Explorer log show a value for interrupts just below what I consider a bad level so let's see if the DPC Latency checker shows any red.  Perhaps we have a poorly written driver:

Should be

sfc  /scannow

not just /scannow

The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware.

Sometimes caused by overheating as the CPU will slow down to protect itself.  I have also seen it from some intel energy saving feature in the BIOS.

Monitor the temp in real time with speedfan:

http://www.filehippo...nload_speedfan/

Download, save and Install it (Win 7 or Vista right click and Run As Admin.) then run it (Win 7 or Vista right click and Run As Admin.).

It will tell you your temps.  Tthe default is to show the hard drive temp in the systray.  You can change it:  Hit Configure then click on the highest temp of the CPU or Core and check Show in tray
