The circle just keeps turning round and round thinking.  Computer takes about 6-7 minutes to boot up to Chrome. I previously loaded Avast, Avira and SpyHunter and things got worse.  Tried to uninstall them with Advanced Uninstaller Pro 12 but it is either too slow or doesn't work.  Not sure.  Can you help me?  You guys have been great to me in the past. Thank you.

Hi Gmr, Sorry to hear of the problem with your slow computer.
Here are some thoughts for you:

1 Only have one anti virus product running ( resident in memory) otherwise it can cripple the performance of your computer; uninstall them all apart from your favourite anti virus and don't forget the restart after each one ( otherwise the uninstall is likely to fail)

2 It may take a while if your machine is really in trouble, but persevere!

3 You could always download and run the anti virus developers' own uninstall tool(s) and try that... don't forget the restarts!

3 Try using safe mode, does it run any better? can you uninstall products with it in safe mode?

Post back and let us know how you get on together with full details of the make/ model number of your computer
Regards

I'd keep avast and disable the others while you uninstall the others and use like paws suggested the company's own uninstaller.

Avast is easy to use and has a boot time scanner.

You might want to see after you have done what paws suggested what start up programs are running as to many and certain ones can cause slow load times plus not all are needed to run at start up.

How to find them manually.

click start scroll down to the bottom and click windows system open the folder click task manager and then click start up tab

The will have a list of start up programs the status if it is enabled or disabled and impact if it is high or low.
You might want to copy these for your next post to rule them out as a cause.
I wouldn't disable any for now just list them.

What model computer is it?  Try going to Task Manager and look at your Processes.

Click the CPU text to filter it by %

Is anything there using an abnormally high percentage of the CPU?

There has been a few issues with Dell computers recently with their Dell Foundation Services program using 99% of the CPU.

Might be a good place to start, also do the same with your Memory and see if there's an abnormal percentage there as well.

I do appreciate the help but it was different a couple years ago. Right?  In the meantime I always have my trusty Chromebook to rely on. . .

Hi Gmr,

Yes you are right, I looked up your topic of a couple of years ago...it's this one  I think...

http://www.geekstogo...hamelion-virus/

You had posted in the Virus and Spyware removal forum to deal with any infections your machine had.

Different procedures apply to posts that involve virus disinfection....

If you think your machine may be infected then open a new topic in the Virus and Spyware removal forum, paste in the required logs so a malware removal expert can take a look to see if there are any malicious elements present.

When you get the "all clear" post back here is this forum if you are still having issues and one of our members will do their best to help you.

Just to finalize my computer slow running problem.  I uninstalled 3 out of 4 internet security pgms. Avast, SpyHunter and malware bytes. I was also trying to uninstall Avira but it wasn't uninstalling and kicking out to error codes while it attempted. . .#2502 & 2503.  I never found out what they meant.  All this was done either with Win10 function or Advanced Uninstaller pro.  So I was still left with Avira.  I tried a new install of it and a repeat for unintalling it with same problems. . .2502 & 2503 stopping the uninstall.  So I next downloaded the newest version of Adv. Uninstaller Pro.  Tried to uninstall Avira via the new version and it worked!  Bottom line is computer is running fast again.  Approx 1 min 40 sec to boot up to my Homepage. I can live with it.  I think problem started by having too many anti-virus pgms.  I have only one anti pgm now called Orange (something) and it has been good working with no annoying pop ups and easy interface. Thank you all for responding and forgive my delayed responses.

How many percents of CPU usage that all apps are using? Is there any strange process in Task Manager?
