Hello, you're help is much appreciated.

I went to reinstall LXLE 32-bit because of display issues. I had tried out a game and it mirrored on my two monitors. When I was done with the game the displays remained mirrored. Normally I just log out and then log in and the problem is fixed. But this time I went and messed with the display properties and as a result something got corrupted, because when I loged in I had mirrored displays. I could put it back to normal, but it would not stay.

So I put up with this for a while and then I decided to go to the extreme and do a reinstall of LXLE.

So I did the reinstall and soon realized that things were not right. I was having problems with password permissions. Some program I was using was jammed up. So I killed it, but to my dismay I killed the wrong thing. I don't even know what it was called, because I'm a Linux Loser. But after that things did not display properly after that. Pages would be mostly whited out. But anyway I then ditched LXLE for the time being and am now using Bodhi Linux 32-bit. The screens go black about once a minute, lockup and minimise to the panel. The mouse is still functional. Some of the icons have disappeared from the menu and panels. This does not lead to crashing, just locking. I don't even know is 'reload' is the right term. The screen goes black for a second. Sometimes things stay hidden in the panel.

So when I tried to install LXLE from a USB stick, this was some of the screen read out:

7.532280 usb 1-8 unable to read config index
no caching mode page found
/init : line 3: can't open /dev/sr0: no medium found
10.476029 blk_update request: I/0 error, dev fd0 sector 0
unmount: can't unmount /cdrom: device or resource busy
stdin: not a typewriter

adduser: The user ‘qwerty’ already exists.
In: /root/user/sbin/anacron: File exists
In: /root/lib/systemd/system/cdrom.mount: FIle exists
Using cd-rom mount point /cdrom/

Some of the bold info may be a bit off because I recored a video of the USB boot-up and then took notes, it was a little blurry.

Okay, I think I'm done now. Thanks for your help with this.

Hi  im new here, just analyzing your issue(s)  Have you try'd to check the currently installed graphic's driver ? from experience i've learned the nvidia drivers do have a compatibility issue, and they do have more options for installing a legacy type driver that will be compatible ! its in settings control panel, and as for worst case scenario You may have to reflash the bios of your computer due to a corruption you mentioned that may have changed the bios's handling of the graphic's out put configuration ! First check the installed driver for an Optional graphic's card/ integrated driver for your computer, i will check back to analysis your repost to this issue  Hope this helps resolve the issue  Steve

Hello.

Thank for the reply. The issue was at least in part due to the fact that the file browser PCmanfm was not installed properly for whatever reason. It is the default file manager. So I reinstalled it and I also changed a different icon theme to fix the missing icon issue.

So 99% of the mini-crashing issues are gone.

The problem that remains is that I am having issues unmounting/mounting USB and external hard drives.

I think that it is still something to do with PCmanfm, but I am not sure.

I was using the command gksudo gnome-disks to launch the DIsks utility and then I could enter my password and then pick the device that I wanted to unmount/mount, but that does not function anymore. Now when I try to unmount a USB stick I get the message:

Error mounting system-managed device /dev/sdd1: Command-line 'mount "/mnt/usb- Kingston Datatraveler  (then a big long number)

exited with non-zero exit status 21: ntfs-3g-mount: mount failed: Device or resources busy

(udisks-error-quark,0)

I have found some information on the web but I want to have more of a clue before I start killing processes.

And also when using the system updater a see messages about a "dumb terminal." I have know idea what this means I tried googling but I have not found anything yet.

If you could help that would be great or I could just repost elsewhere.

Have you tried installing all available updates? The command to do so is sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

I would suggest doing that before anything else, as you may be experiencing a bug that was already fixed.

Are you familiar with fsck? This is a tool that repairs ext2/ext3/ext4 formatted file systems.
