I'm working on a friends computer that has the dreaded Aurora virus. If someone could help I'd much appreciate it. Here's the HJT log. I will not use the computer for anything else until someone post a solution. Thanks so much. :tazz:

Hi tblass and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. As you are well aware, your system is suffering from an Aurora/Nail infection and the first thing I want to do is to stop a malicious Added Service.

We must stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

1. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK

Click the Extended tab.

Scroll down until you find the service.

Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Click once on the service to highlight it.

Click Stop

Right-Click on the service.

Click on 'Properties'

Select the 'General' tab

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box

From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'

Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.

2. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type SvcProc in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):

C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

8. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Thanks Trevuren,

I followed your instructions and cleaned out SvcProc. Here's the new HJT log:

Excellent job

Now we will go after a very big infection. (You have a couple)

I need you to run the following programs and post the resulting logs when you are finished. In other words, I need 3 reports posted at once when all is finished.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Download FindQoologic-Narrator.zip save it to your Desktop.
http://forums.net-in...=post&id=134981

Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic. preferably to your desktop
Open the FindQoologic folder.
Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it.
When a text opens, post it in a reply to your thread.

2. Download the RKFiles.zip from here:
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip

Create a new folder called c:\Antispyware\RKFiles
Extract the contents of RKFiles.zip into this new RKFiles folder.

Then,

1. Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart and press the F8 key a few times after the BIOS loads -- the first thing you see when the pc "comes alive" and does its "self test" -- before windows loads).

2. Open the C:\Antispyware\RKFiles folder

* Locate and double-click the RKFILES.BAT to run this tool.
* Sit back and wait untill its finished.
* When it is finaly finished a text file will open.
* Save the contents of that text file.

Note: It should save by default to C:\Log.txt
* Find this log, right-click and rename it RKFiles_log.txt so you can post it later.

3. Reboot back to Normal Mode.

4. Post both logs as well as a new hijackthis log.

Regards,

Trevuren

OK, here's the three scans/reports you wanted. I had to go to a non-infected computer to get the RKFiles; something was blocking access to that site.

Here we go:

==1st, the FindQoologic scan:

Good Work

Based upon the infections that I see in those logs I am going to change my angle of attack. (I like being dramatic)

We must stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

1. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK

Click the Extended tab.

Scroll down until you find the service.

Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Click once on the service to highlight it.

Click Stop

Right-Click on the service.

Click on 'Properties'

Select the 'General' tab

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box

From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'

Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.

2. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type SvcProc in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):

C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

8. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Now for the Elite Bar infection. This easy solution works more than 50% of the time.

1. Please download this tool: LQfix.zip
Unzip it to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet!

IMPORTANT! Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').

2. Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, that is normal.

3. Reboot into normal mode and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread

Regards,

Trevuren

Sorry, but I had to clean out a big mess before I dared tackle the biggest one.

1. Now, pleae re-run the Find-Qoologic and RKFiles scans as per previous instructions.

2. Also, please post the resulting logs.

It will take me about 60 minutes to prepare my next response after receiving the logs.

Thanks Trevuren,

I really appreciate all your help. I'm sure this is quite a can of worms for you. This computer I'm working on has been without virus protection since 11/2004 and the Spyware on here was not up to date either.

Anyway, here's the scans you requested:

===1st the new FindQoologic scan (under normal mode):

Here we go,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Download Killbox here: http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.exe and put it on your desktop

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Standard File Kill
End Explorer Shell While Killing file

Copy & paste the full path of each of the files below into the Killbox topmost box.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\VZPPLP.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\PMUUS.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ZXRRNRZ.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\BAMMXMB.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\NVFSEP.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\VZPPLP.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ZXRRNRZ.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\NAIL.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\VSAPI32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\OHTTQB~1.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SFITA.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SVCPROC.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\TDTB.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\TSC.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\WUPDT.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\VSAPI32.DLL
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\naii.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cafcul.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pukkg.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vzpplp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zxrrnrz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\del.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\ohttqbxeu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sfita.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\tdtb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\vsapi32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

Do this for each of the files listed. Some will not be deleted. Make sure you keep a list of them.

When you are through the list, use killbox to delete the files you were not able to delete as follows:

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Delete on Reboot

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox. Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click No (since you are not finished adding all related files in yet)

Click yes on the last file.

Note: Killbox will let you know if the file does not exist.

After the reboot scan with hijackthis and fix the following if they are still listed

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vzpplp.exe reg_run

Reboot and Post a new hijackthis log, a new Qoologic log and RKFiles log

Regards,

Trevuren

We didn't get it all. That is not abnormal. Narrator often requires a couple of kicks in the pants before it agrees to move on. We did clean up a lot though. If you run into any problems, PLEASE always advise me in your next post. It really helps me to know why procedures occasionnally do not work.

So here we go again, with a twist:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Standard File Kill
End Explorer Shell While Killing file

Copy & paste the full path of each of the files below into the Killbox topmost box.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\MNRNYH.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\NAIL.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SVCPROC.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pdbugbc.exe

Reboot and produce the same three scans. If you notice that Nail.exe is still present, killbox it until it disappears.

Regards,

Trevuren

OK, I deleted those files you mentioned in the last post using Killbox. But there are a number of error messages that popup now on each reboot.

The 1st one is this:

A dialog box with the Title bar: "C:\Windows\Nail.exe
The text of this box says: "Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\Nail.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search"

The 2nd one is this:

A dialog box with the tiltle bar: "RUNDLL"
The text of this box says, "Error Loading D0CE0C16B1"

The 3rd one is this:

A dialog box with the title bar: "RUNDLL"
The text of this box says, "Error Loading E6F1873B.DLL"

The 4th one is this:

A dialog box with the title bar: "RUNDLL"
The text of this box says, "Error Loading AUNPS2.DLL"

These 4 error messages come up on each reboot in normal mode.

***You should also note that I will be unable to continue for today. We'll have to continue on Sunday or any day next week. So I may need to send you new scans when we start up again. Let me know a good day for you to continue.***

Here's the current latest scans:
