The Aurora popups were nonexistant for the last several reboots, but now they are back in all their power. I feel like the whole day has been wasted. I'll see you Sunday. That's for your help though.

When you get back to your machine, do this first regardless. By the way, it wasn't a waste of time. You have rid your system of numerous infections already. Some of these have to go before our tools are able to penetrate and do their work. No one said this would be a walk in the park.

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

1. Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
    2. Boot into Safe Mode and run EWIDO twice in Safe Mode.
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
3. Reboot your machine and post back a new HJT log and the ewido .txt log file you saved by using Add Reply

Regards,

Trevuren

The Nail return is due to this entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [glaoir] c:\windows\system32\ffmfncl.exe r

This causes this trojan to mutate every time the system is restarted thus recreating NAIL
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

2. Run Process Explorer and find the Process in the list of Processes.

ffmfncl.exe

3. Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

4. Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...

In the explorer Window select the file c:\windows\system32\ffmfncl.exe

When prompted if you want to reboot click YES

Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

5. After the reboot check the following items in HijackThis.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [glaoir] c:\windows\system32\ffmfncl.exe r

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

6. REBOOT your system

7. Run HijackThis, click on SCAN, produce a log and Post it back into this thread.

Trevuren

No soap. The process viewer does not list the ffmfncl.exe process. The file is no longer in the C:\Windows\System32\ folder. I did a file search of the computer, it's no longer on the machine.

Hear's a new HJT scan:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [glaoir] c:\windows\system32\ffmfncl.exe r. It is still in your log.

It is still there, just playing with us , that's all. I am going to try somethnig. It may or may not work but we have to find a way to get rid of that file.

1. It is important that all hidden files be showing before we are able to clean up your computer.
*Please download
xphidden.zip to your desktop.
*Double click on the XPHidden.zip to open the file
*then double click on xphidden.reg to add the information to your registry.
*This will cause all super-hidden files and protected system files to be visible.

2. Download Killbox here: http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.exe and put it on your desktop

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Standard File Kill
End Explorer Shell While Killing file

Copy & paste the full path of the file below into the Killbox topmost box.

c:\windows\system32\ffmfncl.exe

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

It may not delete.

If it doesn't delete, use killbox to delete the file you were not able to delete as follows:

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Delete on Reboot

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox. Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click YES

Note: Killbox will let you know if the file does not exist.

You may have to repeat this process 4-5 times before it works

After the reboot scan with hijackthis and fix the following if they are still listed

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [glaoir] c:\windows\system32\ffmfncl.exe r

Reboot and Post a new hijackthis log

Regards,

Trevuren

Don't reboot, don't turn off your machine, don't disconnect from the internet.

It has now shown its face among the processes.

My fix will be there shortly.

1. Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

2. Run Process Explorer and find the Process in the list of Processes.

gjkherw.exe

3. Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

4. Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...

In the explorer Window select the file c:\windows\system32\gjkherw.exe

When prompted if you want to reboot click YES

Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

5. After the reboot check the following items in HijackThis.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rfinme] c:\windows\system32\gjkherw.exe r

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked

6. REBOOT your system

7. Run HijackThis, click on SCAN, produce a log and Post it back into this thread.

1. Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

2. Run Process Explorer and find the Process in the list of Processes.

jfjytvt.exe

3. Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

4. Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...

In the explorer Window select the file c:\windows\system32\jfjytvt.exe

When prompted if you want to reboot click YES

Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

5. After the reboot check the following item in HijackThis.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [imgwhh] c:\windows\system32\jfjytvt.exe r

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked

6. REBOOT your system

7. Run HijackThis, click on SCAN, produce a log and Post it back into this thread.

As you are well aware, the procedure was not a success. I have put in a request for a second opinion and will wait for the "malware gurus" to have a look at your log. I don't expect to get back to you tonight, but you never know.

Take care,

Well, it was recommended that we go for a cleanup first and see what is left over. Depending on the result, we may be continuing with the Process Explorer step which comes highly recommended.

First, please UNINSTALL Viewpoint using the Add/Remove feature in your Control Panel. Reboot your system.
---------------------------
1. Please update the Ewido definitions. Do NOT run a scan yet.

2. Please download Nailfix.exe from HERE

. Click on Spyware Utilities.
. Then click on Nail/Aurora Fix

Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

3. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode
by doing the following:

A. Restart your computer
B. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
C. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
D. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

4. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

5. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

6. Next run HijackThis, click Scan, and put a check mark beside:
