Laptop used to run small games at nice speeds, now they lag bad?

I'm not really a tech-savvy person but I'll try my best to explain my problem. First here is my specs:

Processor Intel® Core™ i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20

Installed Ram 6.00 GB

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

There's probably more but I just copy and pasted what I could from my system info. Anyway, my laptop used to be able to run games like Borderlands, Left 4 Dead 2, Dead Island Riptide and more at low settings with very smooth game play. High settings usually caused the game to lag. But now when opening things like Chrome and loading a webpage such a Youtube, or anything for that matter, it lags and takes a few seconds to load. It used to load right away. One day it started taking ages to load even the simplest of webpages. I only tried online games at the time this happened, and they all lagged horribly so I stopped. Eventually I searched a fix to this and someone recommended I allocate some more virtual memory for the task. I ramped it up and things started to load faster, but still worse off than what it could initially do. Youtube still takes a few seconds to load, before all of this it would load everything fast and efficient. Games run smoother now. However, even on the lowest settings for things like Borderlands and Runescape, I experience a lag that can be unbearable at times. It will run crisp and clean and feel like I'm gaming on an xbox for a little while and then bam, lag. I notice a tiny bit of lag when doing menial things on Runescape, which is annoying when trying to do anything. Stardew Valley and Terraria run without problem.

My download and upload speed seem to be normal, maxing out at around 5 mbps for downloading things. <-- This was what it was before all this mumbo-jumbo.

System restore and completely reinstalling os does not help.

Disk defragmentation does not help.

I have run anti-virus programs, to no avail. They do not find any viruses.

I would really like help with my problem. I just want to be able to play these games again, (mostly Runescape haha) I am willing to play on the lowest settings but even that lags now. Can anyone suggest a decent fix, or things I can try that they believe could alleviate my situation? Thanks in advance!

Get Process Explorer

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7 - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header  to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a full minute then:

File, Save As, Save.  Note the file name.   Open the file  on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

Get the free version of Speccy:

http://www.filehippo...download_speccy (Look in the upper right for the Download
Latest Version button  - Do NOT press the large Start Download button on the upper left!)
Download, Save and Install it.  Tell it you do not need CCLEANER.    Run Speccy.  When it finishes (the little icon in the bottom left will stop moving),
File, Save as Text File,  (to your desktop) note the name it gives. OK.  Open the file in notepad and delete the line that gives the serial number of your Operating System.
(It will be near the top about 10 lines down.) Save the file.  Attach the file to your next post.  (More Reply Options, Choose File, Open, Attach This File)

Interrupts 1.60 0 K 0 K n/a Hardware Interrupts and DPCs

Interrupts should be below a maximum of 1.4 CPU % and I would rather see it under 1.0.   Higher values are usually caused by bad drivers.  Since SynTPEnh.exe is using so much CPU time I would suspect it.  See if you can find a new driver on your PC maker's website.

Sometimes just removing the driver and letting windows find it again will help.  Search for:

device manager
hit Enter

This should bring up the Device Manager.  Find your touchpad driver in the right pane.  I would think it would be under Mice and Other Pointing Devices so open that by clicking on the arrow in front.  Then right click on the driver and Uninstall.  Reboot.

You can also just plug in a USB mouse and disable the touchpad and see if that makes a difference in your games (and in the CPU% used by Interrrupts in Process Explorer).  It doesn't have to be the touchpad.  Network drivers are often the problem.  You can stop them in Device Manager and see if Interrupts goes down a lot.

Other possible problems:

Hard drive is getting tired.  Claims it has been dropped.

I would keep speccy and check the Attribute name Reported Uncorrectable Errors once in a while to see if its value is increasing.  If it keeps increasing then you'll need to clone the drive as soon as possible.

I uninstalled SynTPEnh.exe like you said, rebooted and when I got on to check it said it was an unknown device. It then made me reboot right away. Then it was back to being installed. Anyway, I disabled the network drivers to see if my games would load any better, they didn't. But I did notice that before updating my network driver -apparently my wifi adapter wasn't fully up to date- with the interrupts and the drivers on, if I wagged my mouse around the screen fast, it jumped up to 4.2-6.1. After updating it and wagging my mouse, the interrupts are still high but settle at about 2-3.5. When idle and not doing anything it seems to sit at .3-.5. Anyway I don't think that really did anything. Don't know why I did that silly thing.

It must be something wrong with the hard drive then. You've been great at helping me by telling me what to do step by step and I appreciate it. The problem does still persist, and I'm sure there is a fix but I really don't want to spend money to fix my laptop. I'll have to bear with it. Thanks for everything :)

Could I see another Process Explorer log now that you have updated the drivers?

Sure, the interrupts were high this time because I was playing music through vlc media player and using chrome to load videos. I don't use these when playing games. Here:

I went ahead and checked the attribute error things you told me to keep an eye on. Here it is:

Since the attribute is not changing and just has one bit set in the raw valu8e I expect it's just an improperly set bit so not a problem.

I do not agree with your reasoning about the high interrupts.

See if you can get DPC Latency to work:

http://www.thesycon....ncy_check.shtml

It has a bug in Win 8 & 10 that cause its base level to sit at 1000 microseconds but it seems to work OK otherwise.  Do you see a lot of red?

It shows mostly yellow. Loaded a youtube video to see if anything changed and one line spiked red for a split second before returning to yellow. It says some device drivers work bad on my device. I'll post a screen shot. Does this mean that if I find the bad driver my computer might go back to working normally?

That's the idea.  If you can disable a driver and  DPC Latency is happy then you've found the problem and either a newer or older driver will fix the problem.  Try your sound driver.

So, I've been disabling drivers and I can't tell if they have at all been beneficial. What will the dpc checker say/do if I have found the bad driver? Do I wait a minute and see if the yellow goes to green, or will the message about having bad drivers go away?

Perhaps if you hit Reset after you disable a driver.

I've found that Process Explorer Interrupts is a good way to tell if a driver is bad.

Disabled every driver that could be disabled; some only had "Uninstall" as the option. No real difference in latency, still stayed yellow. Computer started freezing up.

When Chrome is being used, interrupts seems to skyrocket, especially on Youtube. Idle without Chrome on it's around .4

Didn't see any difference with interrupts either when disabling drivers. Could the problem lie with one of my drivers that can't be disabled?

After enabling all the drivers, latency appears to have gone to green somewhat. It's only green when I'm not doing anything.

I would say you have something definitely wrong with Chrome.

The .4 is very good for an idle system so it's probably not a driver.

4.61 and then 33.65 for Chrome is very bad.

Can you go into Chrome, click on the three horizontal line icon, then  Settings then Extensions.  Disable each extension by Unchecking.  Restart Chrome and then check to see what Interrupts and Chrome are using?
