As the subject line says, wireless USB devices (keyboard/mouse) work ... WIRED does not

The printer works (USB, not network).

This is true even for the boot sequence.  I can use the wireless USB to get into the BIOS, but I cannot use the wired.  I have tried plugging them (keyboard and 2 different mice) in all the ports (directly on to the computer) and they dont work.  ... but anything that has its own power (batteries in wireless keyboard/mouse) and printer (plugged into wall) and external had drive reader (plugged into wall) ... they all work.  It's just the usb stuff that gets power from the MB.

Currently, I have a powered hub and my wireless dongle plugged into it, so the hub works, but it it a powered hub, and that setup works.  Even if I plug the wired stuff into the powered hub, it doesn't work.  This is even during boot when I want to get into the BIOS.  But 2 different wireless kbds/mouses work.

Anyone had this problem?

Thanks and KCCO,

   KP

If this is a desktop, if it has the PS/2 ports, can you borrow a PS/2 keyboard and a PS/2 mouse to test?

I can use the wireless stuff to debug and get into bios and stuff.  but direct wired usb stuff does not work at all (unless powered -- eg printer wireless mouse/kbd, hub etc...)

I was hoping a borrowed PS/2 keyboard and mouse would either rule in or rule out the motherboard KB-MSE controller, the portion that governs the hard-wired usb input/output, being at fault.  Hope I said that right.
