Identify software or system components that are key but missing in current commercial or opensource offerings? Trying to find software or components that are currently missing in opensource clouds for a research assignment...does anyone have suggestions?

Based on a few readings, some companies providing cloud services did not have sufficient backup and restore operations, software-wise and/or hardware-wise.
