I had an update on my windows 8 & the computer was acting a little strange.  So l thought to hurry & make a system restore point, just in case.  When I got there, I checked to see how many restore points had gathered & the only one there was from that day.  No others existed. Hmmm..

soon after, it shut down & restarted saying it’s searching for a solution, then asked if I wanted to do the last system restore, I hit yes & round & round it went on an infinite loop until it went to a black screen saying no boot drive found. Tried all the F keys, nothing worked, took out battery & cable, restarted to black screen after toshiba splash, then to black screen "no bootable drive found."

I fiddled for hours.  Appears to not be reading it. Awhile back I bought a hard drive dock with the double USB plugins, so I took out the laptop HD & plugged it in, took it to alt laptop & it wouldn’t even show up in my PC. Soon after, my 2TB backup ext. HD showed it was empty that was already in my laptop plugged in what the heck? volume looks right with % used though. I then got out my dinosaur laptop & plugged it in there & I can see EVERYTHING. So now what do I do to fix the boot problem? Other than grab those files & save them somehow...then plug it back to the Toshiba & do a factory reset, I’d like to tweak a boot or sys file somehow to get it to boot since it’s all there. What can I do?  Also what to do for all computers to read the ext HD too?  2Tb is a lot of data & I don’t want to buy another.  HELP!

Hello GeekyGG,

Welcome to Geekstogo.

Seems this was overlooked somehow. Our apologies.

When I research this I find reports that that might indicate a power problem see here.

I think this technical rather than a malware problem. You could open a new topic in the Windows 8 forum and see if someone there has a solution.

Alternatively, I can give you some instructions to create a Puppy Linux disk to see if that will help you access your hard drive to copy your data.
