First of all, Hello!  I'm new here ^.^

Not sure if this would be the correct place to post my problem, but here we go....

So... when I shutdown my computer, i get a blue screen of death with "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

But this is not actually the problem itself.

What I want, is to schedule a computer shutdown, but I can't do it because of this error. If i use the "Task Scheduler" it will try to shutdown, i will get the blue screen and the computer will just reboot. OR if i deactivate the automatic restart when system failure, it will stay at the blue screen.

I know that the ideal thing would be solving the blue screen problem, but, is there a way, a script I could run in a batch file that would "kill my power" (or whatever it's called what happens when I long press the power button, which is the way I have been shutdowning my PC for a couple of months now )

Thank you

I appreciate your help :)

This may be something you've already tried, but open a command shell and try "shutdown -s -t 0".. this will shutdown your computer immediately. It may blue screen again, as it basically executes the same program as when you click shutdown, but it's worth a shot.

Thank you UnloosedCake for trying to help me :)

Yeah, I tried this and, as you say, it's basically the same, so the BSOD appears anyways :(

Hi purturus,

Welcome to GeeksToGo! :)

Which OS are we discussing here? Vista or Windows 7?

I know that the ideal thing would be solving the blue screen problem, but, is there a way, a script I could run in a batch file that would "kill my power" (or whatever it's called what happens when I long press the power button, which is the way I have been shutdowning my PC for a couple of months now )

You're right! The logical solution is to fix what is causing the blue screen, not find a way to bypass it.

A computer was not designed for the "hard shutdown" method as you have been doing for the last couple of months. This can cause severe damage to your file system and possible physical condition of the hard drive. If you have been shutting down your computer for months now with no damage, then lucky you, but all it takes is that one time to shut it down improperly and the cost to fix could be that you will need to reinstall windows or worse case scenario replace damaged hardware.

You said this has been occurring for a couple of months now. The "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" can be the result of a bad driver update or a driver that needs to be updated. This can even occur when new hardware has been installed and the driver needs to be updated.

Have you tried a system restore to a time before you started to get the blue screens? If you can not access you computer in normal mode, you can perform a system restore in Safe Mode, though the system restore in Safe Mode is irreversible.

Do you recall when this blue screen began. Let's check a few things before I provide some instructions on how to possible fix this proplem:

Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

On the interface of the screen that pops up, you will see a list of options to check. Look for and place a checkmark the following 4 boxes only. No sense in checking them all at this time:
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices - (dial) Only Problems - (dial) No Driver - (dial) All
  • List Restore Points
Click Go and post the result.

Donna :)

Thank you DonnaB for your reply ^.^

Let's see:

-The OS is windows 7, but originally this laptop had Vista, and before going to Seven, I also had it running with W8.

Couldn't update to 10 because another blue screen appears while upgrading, but I'm not sure if it has any relation, as I couldn't find any code or error name, just the sad face and the "something went wrong" message.

-Also, I posted this on another Computer Helping forum, and we are discussing the possibility of the charger being the problem, as it broke long ago and the one i bought wasn't the original. The battery lasts 5-10 min if I unplug the PC.

-Shutdowning the computer in safe mode also causes the BSOD to appear.

They also asked me to run BlueScreenView and this is what I got:

The OS is windows 7, but originally this laptop had Vista, and before going to Seven, I also had it running with W8.
Couldn't update to 10 because another blue screen appears while upgrading, but I'm not sure if it has any relation, as I couldn't find any code or error name, just the sad face and the "something went wrong" message.

Wow! Poor thing has been around for awhile huh? Could be a hardware issue since it started out as Vista and went on a roller coaster ride of OS's.

Also, I posted this on another Computer Helping forum, and we are discussing the possibility of the charger being the problem, as it broke long ago and the one i bought wasn't the original. The battery lasts 5-10 min if I unplug the PC.

Sounds to me like the battery itself is not holding a charge. When is the last time you got a new battery? I have nothing but laptops and have only once contacted the manufacturer to purchase the original power adapter/charger. Most times I got my replacements at my local tech shop. I was under the impression that it didn't matter if it was the original if the voltages were within range. I have never had bsod's due to the wrong adapter.

Since you have an on going topic at another help forum, I have to resist my desire to continue helping you. Posting topics in multiple forums is self defeating and can be can be detrimental to your computer. Each and everyone of us has a different method to come to the same conclusion and mixing the two methods could have reverse effects. I appreciate that you mentioned you have a another open topic elsewhere. Usually we prefer that one or the other be closed to prevent travesty.

I am going to go ahead and lock this topic for the moment. Do contact me via PM if the other forum does not resolve the problem. Please include a link to that forum topic as well.

Thank you and good luck!

Hi Puturus,

I have unlocked your topic as you requested since the help you were getting at ComputerHope did not resolve the problem.

I didn't see much too alarming in the MiniToolBox log, except that you have no antivirus installed. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware versión 2. was not designed to be a replacement for any anitvirus. See here

In the PM I replied to I mentioned for you to give the system a good dusting using compressed air and to change the settings for your DMP files so more can be created just in case they are needed. If you still need help after cleaning the dust out of the laptop, let me know and we can decide our next steps thereafter.
