Removing Microsoft Games from Windows 7 PC?

Hello Waste of Space, Can only be done in the registry and for the minimal amount of space you will free up due to the risk of hosing Windows it really is not worth it, see Brink tutorial... Go to the full post »

Hi. I desperately need to free up space on my PC which is running increasingly slowly, so I thought I'd get rid of the pre-loaded Microsoft games (which heaven knows I've never even bothered looking at, let alone playing).

When I select each individual game folder and attempt to delete it, I get the message 'You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this folder.'

I Googled for info on how to get around this on Windows 7, but the only advice I could find didn't work.  So then I searched Geeks to Go and found a thread which contained a link to advice on how to do it, but unfortunately the link is now a dead link.

I don't suppose any of you Einsteins could talk me through the process of bypassing, sidestepping or confronting this TrustedInstaller killjoy on Windows 7?

Many thanks.

Hello Waste of Space,

Can only be done in the registry and for the minimal amount of space you will free up due to the risk of hosing Windows it really is not worth it, see Brink tutorial here

FWIW, you will not be freeing up GBs by getting rid of the games and backing up to an external source and deleting seldom used programs/apps would be more appropriate.

Well, many thanks for putting me straight on that one, comrade.  Much appreciated.

Sadly my PC has very few apps on it (I'm very much a barebones PC user), so nothing really suggests itself as ripe for deletion other than the entire computer itself.  So maybe it's time it had a romantic rendezvous with a dustbin.

Cheers.

You are welcome Waste of Space  :)

How low on free storage space are you - what about using an external USB HDD or enclosure.
