I have the xfinity triple play plan.

My modem supplied by Xfinity is a single 2.4 band Arris TG862 for which I pay $10/month.

Xfinity provides two wifi signals; one is a secure home and the other is an unsecured guest.

The home wifi is much weaker than the guest.

I want to buy my own modem to save the rental and get better wifi coverage. Dual band?

I am told that only a few boxes will work because I have the phone as part of the package.

Regarding the phone; when I moved here I wanted to keep my MD cell number but also have a FL #. I don’t use a landline but have the Xfinity # forwarded to my cell. I.E I only use the Xfinity # for incoming calls. I assume that the call is switched before it gets to the modem? So, given that, do I still need a modem that supports Xfinity voice?

Also, with my own modem, will I still receive the two signals?

Thank you.

Thanks.

I am aware of that page but it doesn't address my main question of using a non voice modem if I have the phone forwarded to my cell.

Hello,

I'm looking for the answer, but having trouble. I don't think you need or have to have a voice modem. I'm just not a 100% about it though.

Thank you for your effort.

It seems this is not an easy question to definitively answer.
