Computer specs:

Laptop Acer Aspire 5750 (doodoo?) refurbished

OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1

CPU Intel® Core™ i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz
Motherboard Acer JE50_HR

Hard Drives ST500LT012-1DG142 ATA Device Fixed hard disk media 2 partitions serial number: 2020202020202020202020203353505033564538 465.76 GB
Antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials

##########################################################

Problems:

  • always several minutes of ear piercing beeps while loading Windows but not while in safe mode (so not a keyboard issue?)
  • always several minutes for keyboard on laptop or external keyboard to work after Windows successfully starts
  • always several minutes for any right click menu to work after Windows successfully starts
  • always unable to type "(" with laptop keyboard (but can with external), but shift key works with other keys fine
  • always unable to run disk checks: via computer properties and windows memory diagnostic tool on system recovery boot disk it gets to end of scan, restarts, does not display results (?) after loading windows successfully. Via system recovery command prompt: "chkdsk/r" did not work because the volume was right protected. "chkdsk c: /f /r/ /x" I tried three times and got a different message: failed to transfer logged messages, or in use by another process
  • randomly, infrequently restarting when power options only tell it to sleep
  • randomly, infrequently bottom left shift key on any keyboard pasting clipboard content into text fields
  • no longer able to system restore via control panel or system repair boot disk.

#########################################################

Other info:

Malwarebytes and MSE scans find nothing.

Other than the problems listed above, the laptop seems to run quickly and smoothly.

The HDD does not make strange sounds.

No problems accessing files, folders, programs although I do not have many at all because this laptop is brand new to me.

All but one USB driver has been updated; my usb ports seem to be reading things fine.

No blue screens.

I've no Windows 7 recovery disk or iso image for this computer yet, nor am I sure if I want to make one given these problems (?), but I am pretty sure it's a genuine installation and shows a product key in computer properties. I do have a recovery cd for the exact same version of windows from another laptop (Asus)--if that makes any difference.

No, I cannot take the computer back to the person who sold it to my parents, who then gave it to me.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello and thank you.

I passed SeaTools. However, the system scan hangs at "verification 28% complete" for hours; it never gets to scanning. Did make sure that no other usb drives were attached.

I rebooted a couple of times and let it run for 6 hours. "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations." So, it passed both tests.

The only cd I have is a system repair disk--no recovery cd or iso image.

Hi. I made sure I was offline and all programs except system configuration were shut down, including my browser. Right after I clicked "restart" it gave me the attached error message, I clicked "ok" to terminate, and it hung at a black screen without powering off or restarting.

So I disconnected all power sources, restarted, and then it wouldn't even boot. I could hear the machine was on, but it would not go beyond a black screen.

I have forced restart by powering off and on several times now, and it just hangs at the black screen and will not load windows.

The only way I can avoid the black screen is by pressing f8 right at powering on, then it will go to either windows boot manager where I can select the only option of windows 7, or it will go to advanced boot options where i can start windows normally. Either way, at least there are no annoying beeps when windows does load successfully. :) Ideally, there would be no black screens or beeps, though....

(edit: it could be a fluke or not pertain to what was just done, but my keyboard and right clicking is working well upon startup.)

Hello, freebooter.

That error message in the photo only displayed once, after doing all of the system configuration work you'd instructed, before powering off and restarting.

Before we got into the black screen pattern we are in today, there would be several minutes worth of beeping while windows was starting up. The display would say "windows is starting" and it would beep, beep, beep. I have tested for keyboard problems to the best of my ability and nothing seems to be the culprit. Please note the beeping does not occur in safe mode, ever.

It may have been that Firefox had not completely shut down when I did the system configuration restart.

I explored the driver possibilities, all are current to my knowledge but one is a mystery. I have no clue what the driver or device is, attached. I will look more into it.

How would clean boot have let me know if anything were a problem? It restarted my computer and I have not been able to go beyond a black screen and boot normally without f8 intervention since then, and it was not happening prior to the system configuration adjustments this morning.

Hello and thank you again.

There are 4 different (?) values entered in the hardware id for the unknown device that have PCI, DEv, and VEN in them, attached.

Also, I forgot to mention in my last post that it was the CardReader_Broadcom_1.0.0.219_Win7x64 driver that I downloaded from the Acer site and it did not load/update successfully through device manager manually or automatically.

Hello. Thank you. Broadcom xD Picture Bus Driver is nowhere to be found on the Acer site for my model. I don't know if the device, whatever it is or does, is even supposed to be on my refurbished computer. I see people have problems with it elsewhere on the internet, too.

I am guessing that if I have all services running again, uncheck each service and restart one by one I can  troubleshoot which service causes the long, ear piercing beeps at whenever windows starts up.

Would both issues possibly disappear if I burned a clean install iso disk from Microsoft and ran it?
