Hardware Connection Configuration

I have been having issues with XP service pack 2 and wondered if my connection configuration is OK

I have an ASUS A8V Deluxe MB, AMD 64 3200+ CPU & 120 MB Seagate HDD that is attached in SATA connector. DVD drive is designated Master IDE and CD R-W is slave connected into Primary IDE slot. Should the DVD & CD be in the Secondary slot, leaving Primary open?

Also, I want to install a small HDD (20GB) to use for backing up C: drive only. How do I configure that (I assume in Primary IDE slot) so computer only sees it when I want to back up? Recommended software for backup utility? I have heard Ghost mentioned, but have no experience there.

Thanks for any help and or suggestions :tazz:
