yes ron, I did say in my last message that I ran the all in one repair and yes I checked afterwards and windows update is working.  ill wait until you decide if I need to uninstall freemake although I would like to keep it if you say its ok to do so.  regarding daemon, its just a virtual drive program that I use to load iso files.  ive used that program for over 10 years on my computer.  do you feel its something that I really need to uninstall?  ill wait for your reply before I proceed with your daemon instructions.  by the way, my computer does seem to be running better now.  thanks.

Please uninstall Daemon.  You can probably reinstall it later.  I want to see if it is the cause of the errors like:

Type: Error Category: 0
Event: 1 Source: VDS Basic Provider
Unexpected failure. Error code: 490@01010004

Freemake is still causing problems.  Can you uninstall it until we get this sorted out?

Search for

services.msc

hit Enter

find Virtual Disk and right click and select Properties then change the Startup Type: to Automatic.  OK.

scroll down to

Windows Media Player Network Sharing

and change the Startup Type: to Disabled.  OK

scroll to

Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework

change the Startup Type: to Automatic.  OK.

Close the services window.

Right click on (My) Computer and select Manage (Continue) Then click on the arrow in front of Event Viewer. Next Click on the arrow in front of Windows Logs Right click on System and Clear Log, Clear. Repeat for Application.

Reboot.

2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.  (Each time you run VEW it overwrites the log so copy the first one to a Reply or rename it before running it a second time.)

hi ron.  I uninstalled freemake and then did all the steps you asked and rebooted.  as always i right clicked vew and ran as administrator and entered the settings you requested but when I hit run it came up with an error that said "run time error 75. path/file access error".  I tried it a 2nd time and the same thing happened.  I can only guess that one of the settings we changed caused this??  ill wait for your reply.

update:  ron, Ive been using my computer for a bit now since you made the last changes and I think its had a negative impact.  for example when I opened iTunes it got stuck the first time.  then on the 2nd time it opened but it took very long to do so.  then when I opened windows mail it got stuck and I had to close it and then it did open but also took a long time to.  even some normal web browsing seems a bit slower.  none of this was like this before we made the last set of changes as I had used iTunes, my mail and was browsing the web at faster speeds before these changes went into effect.  I just thought I would bring this to your attention, thanks.

2ND UPDATE: hi again ron.  the system seems to be ok now and nothing is lagging like I stated in the update before.  I did make a change and what I did was reinstall my intel rapid smart technology back.  I had thought that was giving me problems but as ive stated before it was the malwarebytes program that was causing my freezing.  the intel rapid smart technology is part of the intel rapid storage program and what it does is it uses a 60gb ssd that's in my computer as a buffer working with my hard drive and stores the most used programs/items there for quicker access to commonly used programs and faster boot times.  its almost like turning a regular hard drive into a hybid one.  its working flawlessly so that's good and since reinstalled it ive noticed everything is definitely running faster.  even my mail and iTunes is opening up almost instantly.

one other thing.  I spoke to malwarebytes tech support (only through email as theres no phone support) regarding the freezing issue and told them I had used malwarebytes for 10 years with no issues.  now after reinstalling my entire computer from a windows image its not working.  they had me use their uninstall tool to completely wipe malwarebytes off my computer and reinstall.  I did all that but unfortunately its still causing my computer to feeze so I replied back to them that it didn't work and I went into safe mode and turned it off again and now everything is working again.  its just strange that after 10 years of no problems with malwarebytes now theres a problem.  obviously there must be some sort of conflict and im hoping they can fix it.  would you by any chance have any ideas why its not working now?

Very strange.   "run time error 75. path/file access error" is usually what you get when you forget to right click and run as admin.

Oh well:

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark only the following checkbox:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
  •
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Looks like Freemake didn't uninstall completely.

    Search for

    services.msc

    hit Enter

Find Freemake Improver service and right click and select properties then change the Startup Tye: to Disabled.

    Also getting an error from

esu.exe which is the Garmin application so uninstall it too.

    Then clear the alarms:

Right click on (My) Computer and select Manage (Continue) Then click on the arrow in front of Event Viewer. Next Click on the arrow in front of Windows Logs Right click on System and Clear Log, Clear. Repeat for Application.

    Reboot.

Run VEW or Minitoolbox as before.

Is it starting up any faster?

hi again ron.  I disabled freemake but didn't uninstall garmin because that's my running watch software and before I uninstall it I want to be sure my running history logs wont be deleted by deleting the software and garmin tech support doesn't open up for another 45 minutes.  so if you still want me to uninstall it just let me know and ill call them at 9am to make sure im not going to lose my running history.  I rebooted and attempted to run vew again as administrator but it still came up with the same error.  I was always able to run vew until we did the steps a few posts ago when you had me change the settings in services.msn for Virtual Disk, Windows Media Player Network Sharing and Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework.  do you think changing any of those back would enable me to run vew again?  anyway, here is the minitoolbox text below.  and I would say my system is running pretty fast now, definitely much better than when we first started.

Did you forget to reboot?  Normally we get some errors and yours looks too clean.

We can tell garmin not to run with msconfig if you don't want to uninstall it.  I'm just trying to clear all of the errors before we go on.

ron, yes I did reboot last time and I too was surprised it came back blank.  I went ahead and disabled garmin and cleared the logs again and rebooted and then ran minitoolbox again and heres the results  by the way do you have any idea why malwarebytes is causing my computer to freeze when that never happened before I restored my computer back from the windows image?  also, is there a way to fix vew to run again based on the changes we made that seemed to cause it not to work now?  thank you.

oh and by the way heres a piece of info that I have no idea if its useful to you but I thought I would tell you as it was strange.  sometimes when I reboot the date format of my clock/calendar that's on my bottom of my computer tray changes by itself and that never happened before.  instead of showing 4/12/2017 it would reverse the month/day and show 12/4/2017.  so I would just go into the calendar settings and change it back and it seems to stay there now.  this happened about 5 or 6 times and I don't know if its important to your work so that's why im mentioning it.

Check the clock.  Is the time correct?\

Let's see another Process Explorer log.

Also let's check your Internet connection:

Go to http://www.speedtest.net/and click on Begin Test

When the Test finishes click on Share This Result and then select Forum then Copy then move to a reply and Ctrl + v

Is that about what you pay for?

It boots without a lot of errors and process explorer looks pretty good.  I assume the Speedtest results are about right for your service.  Is it still acting slow?  When is it slow?  IF slow when browsing is it slow for all browsers or just one?

Yes, the speed test results are accurate as I have 100 speed. Right now everything is running fine with no slowness and it's definitely a big improvement compared to when we started. Do we need to change any settings so that in the future programs like Vew can run? Is it OK to reinstall Daemon Tools as it was my go to program for ISO files. Can I now enable Garmin back again?  Maybe I should I make those changes and then run another test so you can doublecheck to make sure nothing has changed? I'll also assume that the freemake software is a no go and I need to find something else to flip my iPhone videos that I download from my phone?  ill wait for your reply before I do anything, thank you?

By the way is there any help that you could give me to figure out why Malwarebytes is not running as dealing with Malwarebytes technical support via email is excruciating as they have only answered one reply in the last three days and they have no phone support and before I had to reinstall everything from my image Malwarebytes worked flawlessly for me for 10 years.  It's a program I like to have along with Norton for a double layer of protection that has worked well for me without problems for the last 10 years. Right now as soon as Malwarebytes starts everything freezes except I can still move my mouse but nothing works, not the keyboard, not anything and I'm forced to hold the power button down for 5 seconds to reboot.  Something must be now conflicting to cause this as it never happened before.  Thank you.
