Thanks guys... the instructions from iammykyl got me into Admin... and then followed your lead FreeBooter. Things back to normal. Again, big thank you.... Bry Go to the full post »

Went to the Khanse site and didn't see where to click to get help with Win Updates. Ran the WIN Update bar three times. It shows a couple of errors but didn't fix them.

Thanx guys.... a really appreciate your help...

The first link gave me an error and wouldn't work, the second found an error but couldn't repair it.

I couldn't start the computer last night. Ran Start Up Repair for half an hour and it finally started. Took a chunk out of my battery power. No plug in.

Still haven't tried the Khanse fix... what do you think?

Much thanx....

Bry

Ran the Khanse fix. When I searched for updates the computer tried to download and install something called a Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. The download failed.

PS... having trouble posting replies to this thread. Have to do it through "More Reply Options" ....is there a problem with the Geek site?

Sorry for the delay. I was out of town yesterday. Anyway no change here after running Khanse fix. Any other recommendations would be welcomed.

I downloaded the Reset Windows Update Components tool to my desktop but when I right click, I don’t get the option to open as Administrator.

Thanks. Unzipped and ran twice as Administrator.

Computer rebooted.

Ran Win Updater manually.

It found one and downloaded one important update.

Created restore point.

Installation started but failed.

Was trying to install something called Quality Roll Up, etc. etc.

Any ideas?

You know more than me, of course. I'm starting to worry that turning off my computer with the power button is going to cause harm. I wish there was a way to just cancel out the download. I probably doesn't do anything anyway. I'm getting real tired of Bill Gates...

Thanks, Freebooter... but you are confusing me. Please tell me exactly what you want me to do next.

Much thanks,

I'll do anything to get rid of the update. Kill it or install it. Just tell me what to do. If I sound frustrated, I'm sorry. But this thing is crazy!

When I shut down, it tells me not to shut off my computer: one important update! But when I manually go to updates it tells me no updates are available????
