Hi,

After my laptop died I managed to put the hard drive into a small case to make it accessible for the new laptop.

There is one program that I need but cannot find the DVD disc.

The full program is on the old laptop Hard drive.

What is the best way, if possible, to copy that program to the new laptop?

I ask this because there are so many files and folders. Some in C Drive some in Wndows folder and so on.

I need to be able to copy the lot so it will run on the new laptop.

Regards.

Hi,

Unless the program is very simple and have everything contained on the install folder that is a very difficult task to do, besides the files the program will most likely need some data also on the Windows Registry.

Hi SleepyDude,

I thought that might be the case.

Ok another thought is can I run the program off the hard drive once it is plugged in to the laptop?

Regards

Its basically the same, if the program uses/needs files stored on the system folders for example it will not find them on the installed Windows even if the file exists on the HDD containing the program inside the old windows installation, the program and system will not know about them.

Did you try searching the old HDD for the program installation files? some programs are compressed inside installers that are extracted to the HDD before install, if you locate the extracted folder in some cases is possible to reinstall the program using the extracted install files.
