Hi

 

My D:\ failed unexpectedly and i lost a lot of stuff , I disconnected it from the rest of the computer so i only have C:\ now with Win 7 installed.

 

One problem was , which i never really took notice of before , my USERS account was on that drive incl My Documents etc

 

The main problem I am finding though at the moment is that Office 2007 must have had certain parts of it linked to that drive and I found it corrupted completely , I had the product key and downloaded it again from Microsoft.

 

However when it comes to uninstalling it / repairing it / re installing , basically anything , it wants to find D:\ and wont go any further so rolls back to the start.

 

How do i fully remove any and ALL traces of this D:\ from my computer so I can re install Office and I stop getting an error message saying D:\ can't be found whenever it seems I click on anything.

 

Any help appreciated.

Start with Control Panel, (View By: Large Icons), System, Advanced System Settings, Environmental Variables.  Inspect the User and System settings for references to D:\  (Select the item that references D:\ and then Edit.  )  If the reference is to a folder on D: make sure the same folder exists on C:

 

The default path for TEMP & TMP in the user settings is:

 

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp

 

but it doesn't hurt to change them to C:\Temp if your PC is a bit confused about where the UserProfile is.

 

Then Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run As Admin.

 

Type:

set 

hit Enter.

 

Look for references to D:  To change an entry such as:

 

USERPROFILE=D:\Users\Rob

 

 

Type:

set  USERPROFILE=C:\Users\Rob

Make sure the folders exist on C::

 

You might be better off creating a new user with admin rights and logging in as the new user as that will create all of the folders you need for the user.

 

Then open regedit and search through for references to D:

There was nothing in the variables that said D:\ but when i went through Regedit there were tons of entries with D:\ so deleted all I could 

 

Rebooted and - fingers crossed - I can't see any error messages concerning D:\ when clicking on anything , I also re installed Office and Excel and Word appear to work
