Hello,

Lets see if FRST can create a restore point.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
Open notepad (Start =>All Programs => Accessories => Notepad).
Copy/Paste the contents of the code box below into Notepad.
CreateRestorePoint:
Emptytemp:
  • Click Format and ensure Wordwrap is unchecked.
  • Save as Fixlist.txt to your Desktop (Must be in this location)
  • Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If the tool needed a restart please make sure you let the system to restart normally and let the tool completes its run after restart.
  • The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post it to your reply.
Note: If the tool warns you about the version you're using being an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

I think the task scheduler may be corrupt. I'll take a look at it, but it's not my area.....

When you get time...

If system file checker (sfc /scannow) finds errors on the first pass, reboot and run it again. If it finds errors on the 2nd pass reboot and run it once more.
  • Open an elevated command prompt by right clicking on the command prompt and choosing Run as administrator.
  • In the elevated command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Please note the space between sfc /
  • This may take a little bit of time to finish so your patience will be needed.
  • When the scan is complete, open another elevated command prompt and copy and paste the following command, then press Enter.

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

    This will place a sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop with only the SFC scan result details from the CBS.LOG in it.
    Please copy and paste the results in your next reply.

Okay thank you so much, I am doing that *right now*.  Unfortunately, I have to leave my dad's place in about an hour (I will still post the response) , but I will save your responses for the next time I come back to my dad's place (in case there is still work needed to be done!)

Next time there are issues and you're not there, have dad run Malwarebytes, it will resolve a lot of issues.

Looks good perhaps it corrected the task scheduler issue. We could pursue that at another time, because I know you have to get ready to go. I'm not sure how to test it just yet.
