I am hand building a computer desk and intend to build my computer right into it, turning it into more of a command station.  I recently sold the last computer I had built and am now working on picking out the components for a new one.

Here is my newegg wish list.  I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations, or see anything wrong with my first draft build.  There really is no budget in mind for this project since I got a good deal on my old computer when I sold it.

I will mostly be using this computer for gaming, eventually VR if possible.  I do some photo editing and rendering, but I don't edit videos or plan on streaming for now.  I chose the parts I did due to the following rationale:

 

GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: As far as I could tell all of the GTX 1080 TI's are pretty much the same, just a different manufacturer, but correct me if I am wrong.

 

ASRock Z270 KILLER: I chose the motherboard because it was the cheapest Z270 I could find with the digital optical for my headset.

 

 I7-7700k: As far as I can tell the I7-7700k is more than what anyone will need in a gaming processor for a while.

 

Team T-Force Night Hawk 16GB: I chose the ram based off of the CPU maxing out at 2400 and only OC to 3000, plus they were cheap and highly rated.  I am not a RAM expert though and would accept recommendations.

 

SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 250GB:  Because I want to go fast!

 

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO: because it is amazing and I used it on my last build, super quiet and no temp rising.

 

EVGA SuperNOVA 850 T2 220-T2-0850-X1 80+ TITANIUM 850W Fully Modular: I am not 100% sure if 850W will be enough, but definitely want a quality PSU for this build.

1080 ti's first round of release were all alike.  They are now starting to do their own thing.  I believe the card you chose is one of those that has been tweaked by the vendor.

 

Have not heard of this memory vendor.  I personally use gksill or patriot. 

 

I built a very similar system not long ago.  I think making your own "case" is fantastic.  Please share pictures when your done.  attached my build if your curious.

 

It's a powerful build.  I haven't been able to stress it at all.  Should last for a long time.

I can't seem to find your build haha. Also, I used the Newegg power calculator and plugged everything in but the m2 and it said 630 watts. Is that 850 beyond overkill?

different brand names, same specs.  Only difference is that I chose to stay with ssd and not m.2 as I needed more storage than speed.  still I chose samsung 850 evo's. 

 

You would be fine with 850.  Rule of thumb is to have at least 20% more power than you will need under max load.  This takes into consideration that the average power supply is 80% efficient.  On a personal note I now hate modular power supplies.  In theory they are great.  In practice they are just plain annoying.  you end up plugging in all the cables in order to have the correct type of power plugs you need.  I must have redid my cable management 5 times to get it close to acceptable. 

 

Like I said, you have spec'd a good build.  Now to see the finished product.

I actually kept one of the SSD's I had from my previous build, so I will have a 500gb 850 evo as well as the M2.  I just drool at the speed of the M2 lol.  It may be a while, but I will update.

Got everything a few days ago and have had some ridiculous trouble getting it all installed since I went with Win 7 instead of 10.  Installing win7 on newer hardware is hard, especially with that M2 drive.  Took me almost 10 hours total to finally give up and install on an SSD through SATA, but my troubles didn't end there.  Apparently the Bios required me to load the drivers for the mobo.  No big deal, plug in the DVD drive and throw the disk in there.  Wrong.  Every time I tried to load the drivers from the DVD drive it failed.  I scoured the UEFI for anything that might resolve the issue and I ended up stumbling across the RAID installation wizard in the UEFI hidden away from anything that it should have been near.  So basically I had to use this wizard to move the drivers from the disk that it came with onto the MOBO and then when installing win7 it automatically fetched the drivers.

I pretty much build computers for a living, just using mostly xp and win7 on older hardware so I haven't had any issues like this before.  The pain of using fairly new products is there are zero resources, and the errors that were showing up were so generic there were endless possibilities on what it could have been.
