Hello,

I'm new to online gaming and I want to know what exactly will use up my data - is it downloading the games and the patches? Or the actual gameplay itself afterwards? I'm using Steam and currently downloading a 2GB (download size) game. How much data is this likely to use per hour when it has finished the initial download and I'm actually playing it? Is there a way to find this out before I download a game?

I'm particularly interested in playing Sims 3 on Steam at the moment.

Thanks!

as stated in article, downloading the game consumes the most data.  Depending on the game, it will depend on the data consumed. For the most part, the size of the game = data consumed.  As to the data consumed while playing, that will very greatly.  If your connecting through a router, it should have a feature to allow you to monitor your bandwidth.  Older games like Sims 3 probably don't consume much data as compared to a newer game.

If you stream a movie, that will consume the most data by far.

Thanks both for your input. We have a large data plan but not unlimited, so should be fine for this game.  :yeah:
