Hi. I'm new on this site. I'm in desperate need of help with this problem.

I'm running a Windows 10 64 bit home premium system on a desk top macchine

I've  had an Epson V550 scanner installed for the last 4 years and it has always worked.

Yesterday, I pushed the copy button and received the following message: "Cannot find the necessary files. Please reinstall the software". I uninstalled the the scanner driver and installed the correct one for windows 10.

I ran the windows troubleshooter and it said I needed to reboot my computer to finish installing the software. (It didn't say what software.)

I've gone thru that exercise a couple of times and it didn't correct the problem.

I read, somewhere, about windows 10 driver signing and Epson software may not be.

I'm sitting here stumped and could really use some help with this problem.

Thanks. Jim B.

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.  (Each time you run VEW it overwrites the log so copy the first one to a Reply or rename it before running it a second time.)

Getting a lot of odd errors so

Run a disk check:

https://www.tekrevue...dsk-windows-10/

This will take a while.  When it finishes:

Open an elevated command prompt:

If you open an elevated command prompt it will by default open in c:\Windows\system32

Once you have an elevated command prompt:

Type:

 DISM  /Online  /Cleanup-Image  /RestoreHealth

 (I use two spaces so you can be sure to see where one space goes.)
Hit Enter.  This will take a while (10-20 minutes) to complete.  Once the prompt returns:

Reboot.  Open an elevated Command Prompt again and type (with an Enter after the line):

sfc  /scannow

This will also take a few minutes.

When it finishes it will say one of the following:

Windows did not find any integrity violations (a good thing)
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them (a good thing)
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them (not a good thing)

If you get the last result then type:

findstr  /c:"[SR]"  \windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log  >  \junk.txt

Hit Enter.  Then type::

notepad  \junk.txt

Hit Enter.

 Copy the text from notepad and paste it into a reply.

After you finish SFC, regardless of the result:

2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

I'm currently running chkdsk per the above instructions.

I rebooted per those same inst.

It's been running for over an hour.

The message on the screen is: scanning and repairing drive ©: 10% complete.

I have a 2TB drive.

Is this the amount of time to be expected?

2 TB is BIG so yes it's going to take many hours to finish.

Chkdsk has been running for 7-1/2 hours now. shouldn't it more than 10% complete by now?

It makes several passes and each one gives you a percentage as it works.  What does it say it is doing now?

"scanning and repairing drive ©: 10% complete." The same thing it said 10 minutes after it started, 7-1/2 hours ago.

The HD drive light is solid red and shows no sign of activity (blinking).
