Hi,

 

We have just installed a netgear R8000 AC3200 router which provides wifi to all our 22 motel rooms.

 

Our internet speed is quite slow at only 5mbs total.

 

My question: currently the router has three signals in total, one 2.4GHz (up to 600mbs)  & two 5GHz signals (up to 1300mbs).

 

Since our internet is only 5mbs should I only allow guests to use wifi off the one signal at 2.4GHz or should i give them access to all 3 signals?

Let them use all bands.  It won't make any difference in the Internet speed.  You might ask them not to stream movies because of the speed limitation.  If the speed is weak in some of the more distant rooms an extender can help.  Netgear makes several.  http://www.netgear.c...ange-extenders/ Cheaper units are available from other companies.

Not really.  They are basically just a relay and not a bottleneck.  Even if they did it is better to have a strong lower speed WiFi than a weak higher speed one.  Weak signals require frequent retransmissions which slow down data transmission.
