I have or had, a perfectly good HP computer with 7 Pro, working great. I was constantly badgered to upgrade to Win 10. Finally, I gave in and let it happen. I hated 10 3but did not convert back for fear of problems. Then, one day I shut the unit down and was greeted with a command, do not turn the computer off because updates are installing. Finally, that is done and I attempt to fire up the computer. It will not boot. There is a flash on a black screen saying 'auto config, please wait. This happens every few seconds. I have tried my emergency disc, backup disc, and a new 7 installation disc. I tried every key combo I learned in 40 years of computer knowledge. Nothing worked.
Therefore, I had to get a new OS and installed it on an old computer I had lying around. Win 7 Ultimate installed and registered. But the old computer is weak and could fail.
I want to know if the hard drive is ready for the scrap.
