This is related to this thread.
Hopefully there is a Windows XP expert here who can help.
Running XP Pro SP3 (from triple boot system).
Briefly, three issues -
1) can't boot into Safe Mode via changes to Boot.ini under msconfig.
2) uninstalled video drivers and used DDU to clear up any remaining files. But on reboot, display resolution remains the same, and can STILL change display resolution to even higher values!? How is this possible when drivers have (supposedly) been removed?
3) on (re)booting, often get Windows explorer opening with explorer showing C:\Program Files directory, when I haven't even opened that directory!?
Ran several anti-malware programs (previously) which did find some minor issues but were cleared.
Ran SFC /scannow, and also CHKDSK, but neither found errors. Also ran Seatools hard drive checking tool, but it didn't find any errors either.
Repaired Windows XP installation via its installation disk, but to no avail.
Maybe some (other non-system) files are missing or corrupted, or some other malware residing somewhere, or what?
Thanks.
