My older HP laptop running Win 10 Home is becoming slower and slower when doing even the simplest tasks like opening a Word doc,or launching my browser. I realize all computers slow down at some point, but are there any scans I can do that will pinpoint what is going on here?  I'm using very little of the 4.00 GB of RAM I have installed, and have 338 GB free on my 500 GB hard drive.

Please do not recommend anything that has the potential to cause system overheating and instability associated with overheating , the Windows High Performance Power Plan is a form of overclocking that can cause both and is something that fellow member 6stringer can most certainly do without, if you really must copy/paste information from elsewhere please do some research first, thank you for understanding.

Re advice of Freebooter re disabling the Indexing function: I am having trouble following the suggested steps. 

 

1. I assume "My Pc" is the same as "This PC", right?

 

2. I get to This PC\C:\ but how then do I get to Properties?
