Hi, i've owned my computer for 6 years now and it has quite old hardware not so much of this generation except 1 part.

1. GTX 960 Nvidia Graphics Card - Only later upgrade.

2. Intel Core i5 3570k CPU 3.40Ghz

3. 16GB of ram. DDr3

4. Fatality z77 Asrock Motherboard

 

I have a budget of $650 and im looking to upgrade my gear to play more of the latest games with ease, so im looking into getting an i5 7500 processor, new motherboard and new 16gb DDr4 ram, i was told replacing these parts are nearly like having a new computer and will make a large difference, is this true or will this not make any difference?\

Your computer is fine ... with the exception of that weak GTX 960. Upgrade it to a GTX 1060 ($275 USD) would make a big difference.

Do you happen to know the brand and model name or number of the present power supply unit, your 16GB of RAM and can you tell us what games or software that you would like to be able to run, as already mentioned your present hardware is ok in the main.

I don't get it, how is it fine? I can barely run anything and the 960 isn't that old, the CPU, motherboard and ram are all 6 years old. Why would i need to upgrade the card, doesn't running a game require the CPU and Ram aswell don't they do anything? I have a friend who has the same hardware as me the only difference is he has an i5 5670k and he can run a game everything on high whilst i can't.

I'm uncertain where to find the model numbers, i do know my power supply is the Strider Gold Evolution Model No: SST-ST1 000-G i don't know where to locate the ram model number.

 

There are a few things im trying to perform better, Payday 2 is one of them that my friend can appear to play fine with 1 generation CPU upgrade. I want to play ARK survival evolved more effectively (Yes i know its un-optimised but im still curious) i cannot currently play battlefield 1 either.

 

I still wasn't answered my question if upgrading to that specific hardware above would increase my gaming fps/performance, i was told it would make a huge difference like purchasing a new computer because im replacing alot of the main components.

For gaming, the GPU is much more important than the CPU. (Although don't expect much from an i3 or lower).

 

Your 3.4GHz i5, along with some fast RAM, a SSD and a reasonably fast, normal size monitor should be able to handle it.

A very good PSU when first released but could potentially be 3 or 4 years out of warranty, not saying that it is causing you performance issues but if you intend upgrading your hardware in any way a new PSU with a 5/7 or 10 year warranty should be factored in.

 

 

There are a few things im trying to perform better, Payday 2 

 

 

Your present hardware is more than up to the task of playing the above game, perhaps something else is causing you problems, see below, the info we get back will also tell us the specs of your RAM;

 

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,  this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Hey guys, i took your advice recently bought a 1060 6GB GPU, and it has made a huge improvement, i have run into a problem sadly though, my CPU is too weak for my GPU im experiencing a bottleneck with particular games, in around 3 days im getting myself new CPU motherboard and RAM anyways but i wanted to ask, this particular game (Battlefield 4) im running on the same graphic settings and my CPU usage is maxing 90 - 100 im unsure why it would be bottle necking when my graphics are the same?
