Have triple booting setup - W7 64bit; W7 32bit; XP 32bit.

 

Have two hard drives. Each hard drive has three partitions.

 

Both Windows 7 operating systems boot partition letter is C:, as expected. But Windows XP boot partition letter is D: !? I'm wanting to change this XP boot partition letter to C:. How?

 

Note that when XP has booted up and running, drive letter C: is (apparently) already allocated to W7 64bit partition. Can these two drive letters be swapped over so that when XP is booted up/loaded, its boot partition letter will be C: and W7 64bit partition letter will be D: ?

One hard drive has Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit operating systems, the other hard drive has Windows XP only.

 

Disconnected the first hard drive with Windows 7's installed.

 

Deleted XP partition on second hard drive.

 

Created new partition, reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP.

 

XP now is allocated drive letter C:.

 

Reconnected first hard drive.

 

But because of re-installation of XP, the multi-booting no longer works due to change in boot setup.

 

Used Windows 7 installation disk to "fix" the multi-booting setup (back to Windows 7 32 bit, Windows 7 64 bit, Windows XP).

 

Then used Easy BCD to "clean up" multi-boot entries as the multi-boot "fix" didn't do a clean fix or repair of the boot loader.

 

Done!

 

BTW, I've now added Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system to the second hard drive, so this drive now has XP and 2008 operating systems. Windows 2008 R2 also has been allocated the drive letter C:.

Thanks for the explanation.

 

 

From my experience some problems can appear when one Windows do changes to the drive/partitions with another different Windows version. For example make sure that System Restore is only active on XP for the drive containing this OS and do the same with Windows 7 because they conflict and delete the System Restore points.

If I'm not mistaken sometimes different windows can also complain about corrupted Recycle Bin but this isn't serious.
