hi all,

i have audacity home recording program and have tried to load new effects vst plugins into audacity.....but failed

i have contacted the audacity team and have been advised to delete pluginregistry.cfg. then re install those plugins of choice ,including new ones, in audacity plugin manager

i was instructed to navigate via  C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Audacity\

however, i get a '' cannot find location'' ........message.

i have contacted audacity but no solution.

can anyone please advise on this issue.

thanks

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Audacity\

Username is a placeholder for your login name.  Doubtful that Username is the actual name of your login.

Open a Command Prompt (non elevated) (Start, All Programs, Accesories, Command Prompt) and the prompt will be

C:\Users\YourUserName>

Also Appdata is a hidden location so you need to tell Windows to let you see the file:

i copied the instruction i had from audacity team.

''show hidden files'' was already enabled when i navigated to that section.

What is your username?  Assuming this is Windows 7.

Does the audicity folder exist in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\?

Could this be a portable installation?  In that case  there is a "Portable Settings" folder in the same directory as the executable (audacity.exe, Audacity.app or audacity and that is where the file might be hiding.

Open an elevated command prompt.

(Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and Run As Administrator)

Type (with an Enter after each line):

cd  \
dir  /a  /s  pluginregistry.cfg

This should search your whole C: drive for the file.  If you have a second drive say it's E: then

e:

and repeat to search the E: drive for the file.

If it doesn't find it then I would uninstall Audacity, reboot, download a new version and reinstall it.

Not sure why you can't see it but apparently the file exists.  To delete it you can open an elevated command prompt and type:

del  c:\users\roger\appdata\roaming\audacity\pluginregistry.cfg
