I have Win7. I used to be able to right click on a photo thumbnail and select the preview command which would open windows photoviewer. I only want to preview. I have Win7 set to open the photo in Photoshop. After selecting the command, the computer seems to be opening the program, I get the loading arrow, but after a few seconds it stops and nothing else happens. Something screwed this up before and it took me forever to find a fix. Whatever the issue is, it happened again, but I cannot find any info to fix it this time. All I can find is info on making thumbnails visible. I have the Windows Photoviewer program and all the files look in order, but it does not work. I use this command all the time for work and waiting for photoshop to open is too time consuming.

Go to Settings > System > Default Apps. Under Photo Viewer choose Windows Photo Viewer as the default photo viewer.

Control Panel/Default Programs/set defaults, select windows photo viewer - it states it is the built in pictureviewer, but photoviewer does not open upon selecting a photo and right clicking on the preview command. If I select this to preview photos, it changes my OPEN command to Preview and now I have 2 Preview commands and neither command works.
When I selected a photo, right clicked - Open With command and set default to Photoshop to get rid of the second Preview Command and get the open command back, for the [bleep] of it, I tried the preview command and it is now working. Don't know why, but it works. Thanks for your help.
P.S. Default in control panel is set to open all image files in photoviewer, but I set default to open with... under right click menu to photoshop and it works. I'm sure I have tried that a few times.
Next day...it is no longer working and trying the same did not make it work again.
