Hi,

I am having trouble with the internet connection on my computer (ASUS UX31LA). My computer says it is connected with good strength to my network, but my computer will disconnect from the internet every 30 seconds or so(this varies, and sometimes will go several minutes and be fine). Other computers and devices on my network do not have this issue at all. The problem also does not appear to be affecting streaming, just web browsing and email, since the connection appears to last long enough for the buffer to do its job, but once the song/show ends then I need to reset the connection. What is very confusing is to reconnect to the internet, all that I have to do is click on the wifi taskbar icon and then my internet is instantly restored(before it goes out again), I do not have to disconnect/reconnect.

Things that I have tried:

-computer restart

-system restore

-updated drivers

-new router, same problem exists on both

-multiple browsers

-other wireless networks, on these it works just fine

I'd really appreciate help on this since it has vexed my troubleshooting capabilities.

P.S. When I type in ipconfig/all to the command prompt, this is my readout:

Search for

device manager

hit Enter

Find the network adapters.  Right click on the wireless and select Properties.  Click on the Power Management tab.  Uncheck  Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power.

Sometimes that option gets confused and tries too hard to save power

I went in and unchecked the power save option, but the problem still exists.

A correction to the last post, the problem still exists but seems to have gotten slightly better. Instead of dropping fully, the connection goes to almost nothing before reconnecting by itself now, the time between "drops" seems to have gotten slightly longer now as well, but its hard to tell. Attached are 3 speed tests that I just ran sitting in the same spot of my house.

Dropouts are often caused by interference.  Download inssider

Double click to install it. Then run it

It will show you a graph in the bottom  that has your signal in blue and competing signals in orange and yellow.  It may also recommend a different channel which might have less interference.

Moving to a different channel (by logging on to your router) can drastically improve performance.

I downloaded inSSIDer and ran it, but it showed limited interference with a Link score of 42 and a signal strength ranging from -30 to -55 dBm. When I had set up my router, I already switched to less used channels, and I have tried switching channels to see if that was the problem to no avail. The problem I have also occurs on the 5GHz band of my wifi, in addition to the 2.4GHz band.

What version of Windows?

Let's see if there are any errors:

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.  (Each time you run VEW it overwrites the log so copy the first one to a Reply or rename it before running it a second time.)

So the problem seems to have gone away this afternoon, it was still there this morning but gone when I woke my computer up from Hibernation this afternoon. I did not change anything in between. Not sure if I should continue to troubleshoot, or just hope the problem doesn't reoccur.

My OS is Windows 10, and my anti-virus is symantec endpoint protection.

Attached is the readout from the Event Viewer.

Up to you.  If you want to go further the next step would be to run dism & sfc:

Open an elevated command prompt:

If you open an elevated command prompt it will by default open in c:\Windows\system32

Once you have an elevated command prompt:

Type:

 DISM  /Online  /Cleanup-Image  /RestoreHealth

 (I use two spaces so you can be sure to see where one space goes.)
Hit Enter.  This will take a while (10-20 minutes) to complete.  Once the prompt returns:

Reboot.  Open an elevated Command Prompt again and type (with an Enter after the line):

sfc  /scannow

This will also take a few minutes.

When it finishes it will say one of the following:

Windows did not find any integrity violations (a good thing)
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them (a good thing)
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them (not a good thing)

If you get the last result then type:

findstr  /c:"[SR]"  \windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log  >  \junk.txt

Hit Enter.  Then type::

notepad  \junk.txt

Hit Enter.

 Copy the text from notepad and paste it into a reply.

After you finish SFC, regardless of the result:

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

After running the command prompt, it outputs that Windows did not find any integrity violations.

Attached is the Event Viewer outputs.

Also, the problem is back.

You posted the System log twice.  Do you have the application?

I have seen some WiFi adapters that could not handle WPA encryption.  Do you control the router?  Could you change it to WEP or no encryption as a test?

I changed the encryption to WEP, but before doing so the problem had once more gone away and has not come back yet so it is hard to tell if that has done anything. And attached is the application log

Intel® Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework is having problems.  There should be a newer version onyour PC maker's website.

You get this when you have something like MS Office and it is not registered/licensed correctly.
